I visited Tony's at the J House for Valentines Day. Every year I take my mother out on Valentines Day since my father passed. I drove approximately 2 hours to this location for a reservation at 9:15pm which I had confirmed the day prior. Upon arrival I checked in with the hostess at 9:08pm and stood to the side waiting to be called. Multiple couples that arrived after me had been escorted to their table before I had. I waited to observe a bit to ensure what I was witnessing was actually occurring. I finally went up to the host at 9:50 and immediately asked for a manager. The manager was a young and inexperienced man that told me he would then sit me in 2 minutes. An additional 10 minutes went by, as the manager proceeded to then take another group of girls who came in well after I had that was sitting at the bar. I went up again and asked how the process worked here for sitting at this was my first time here. The hostess then tells me there is no order at all and then admitted to me that they are taking whoever keeps asking to be sat first. This enraged me because what is the point of a reservation and confirmation then? The manager immediately comes over and then magically provides me with a seat.
Upon sitting down, I began to enjoy my experience as my waiter and multiple other waitstaff were amazing. Each one I had encountered was mannerable, kind, quick, and payed great attention to detail.
There was a Valentines Day pre-fixe menu which I did not want to order off of but was told they will not do regular menus when it is busy which is understandable. For an appetizer I got the trio dumplings and crab cakes. The crab cakes flavor was great but lacked a crispiness to them. The trip dumplings should've been in the trash. They are so small approximately the size of one small bite and lacked flavor. I do not recommend. For an entree I got a steak and potatoes and filet minion ravioli. The steak lacked flavor but the potatoes were packed with flavor and creaminess. The filet minion ravioli is two large ravioli filled with steak and a ridiculous amount of tomatoes. I would not recommend. The desserts were nasty, I got a cannoli and Napoleon. Both were not that great.
My bill came to about $300 which includes two drinks, two pre fixe dinners, and tip. Overall, I would say I had a negative experience here and the only highlight was the wait staff and valet. I definitely think Tonys at the J House is not worth the time or money. DO NOT TRY THIS...
Read moreCame to celebrate a friends birthday, this was my first time here but all my friends and family who went previously raved about this place so I was expecting to have a great time.
Now, it could have been a multitude of things which led to such a poor and horrible experience - they were hosting a wedding party in a section of the restaurant (which was quite loud btw) so maybe they were understaffed or current staff overworked. In the short time frame we were there, it seems like there were a lot of birthday celebrations and they probably sung happy birthday to damn near every table which required most of the waiters. It was Sunday night and the employees were probably ready to go home, who knows….
I can’t say for sure who our waiter was as when we sat down we were greeted by a woman but afterwards it was a guy who ended up taking our drinks and appetizers. He was quite friendly but disappeared after taking our appetizers. Our drinks and appetizers came and everyone said everything tasted good so no issue with the food though the utensils definitely need to be updated as most of our forks were bent in some weird way.
We ate the appetizers, drank our drank and talked, about 30 minutes had gone by. After another 15 minutes, we had to grab a waiter as no one came and checked on us. This was around 9 PM. After putting in our entrees, 20 minutes goes by when the waiter came back and told us the sushi chef had walked out and they don’t know what happened so I ended up with no entree as I couldn’t eat anything heavy and had already had appetizers.
It was very evident that the employees were ready to go as after 9 PM passed, the bus boy kept circling our table frequently and when we asked the waiter if we could look at the dessert menu, she rolled her eyes, looked at her watch and said the kitchen would be closing soon. I don’t know what the kitchen closing soon had to do with anything as we ordered gelato and crème brûlée and when the crème brûlée came, it was evident that it was not freshly prepared as the pudding was cold indicating it was in the fridge all day.
The atmosphere was not inviting at all and I felt that our business was not wanted or cared for by Tony’s employees. It felt like we were a burden to them. I’ve gotten better customer service at fast food and hole in the wall restaurants than at this supposedly ‘5 star restaurant’. They definitely need new employees or...
Read moreOkay so I came here for my birthday yesterday because I seen this restaurant on TikTok and I loved what I saw. When I arrived there was valet parking that took our car and directed us to the restaurant. The host greeted us and show us our table on the outside where the bar and garden with the waterfall were. Beautiful atmosphere and weather was perfect for outside dining. But here was the downfall, I believe our waiter was dry and had no personality. It was my birthday and I wanted to feel special and be acknowledge that it was a special day and they appreciated that I came to celebrate it in their business, but no I didn’t get that. The drinks were bland and didn’t taste the best. I would give the drinks 3/10. The food took forever to come out. When I asked the waiter about the food he stated it was still cooking because we brought steak and we asked for it to be well done. We didn’t even have apps so the food order shouldn’t have taking so long. However, I would’ve appreciated if our waiter keep us updated about our meal instead of watching the baseball game and talking with other coworkers. However, I believe one of the managers was walking around checking on everyone and making sure everything was in order, which was good business practice. But our food finally came out and everything was good and hot. The waiter finally came back and took our next drink order and the second drink was worst then the first drink so I left it there. Overall that place is nice, but when celebrating an occasion and spending money, we the consumers want to feel special. I definitely didn’t and I didn’t bother getting desert because I knew I would not get that treatment I seen on TikTok. I should’ve said something to the manager when he was walking around but I didn’t want an issue. I wouldn’t do a celebration...
