Bought 3 laptops for my business, one happened to be a demo, or floor model. The cashier explained that I needed to do a factory reset to get the demo software off it, no problem. Once I got back to the office and attempted a factory reset, I found out that it was password protected, and couldn't be reset. I called and while they didn't know what the password was, I was told that they could reset it if I brought it back in. The next morning I brought it back in to be informed that the tech guy wouldn't be in until noon. I left and came back again after noon.
I spoke with the assistant manager, to whom I handed my receipt and explained the issue. He informed me that it would be $100 to do a factory reset. I was stunned. Assuming there was a miscommunication, I reiterated that I had purchased this laptop yesterday, and the reason I could not use it was that Staples demo software was on it which needed to be removed. He again said that a factory reset would be $100, or I could purchase a yearly warranty for $99 under which I would get a factory reset for free. If I didn't want to pay him to fix the laptop I bought yesterday, I could return it.
