Soooo my daughter had gone to the Bakery on Thursday and called because she bought many of the pastry items and loved them and wanted to give some to me. I absolutely could not believe how not only eye appealing, but absolutely delicious they all were. So I decided I would drive to Greenwood, with my friend, a 54 minute trip to help support this local Pastry shop. I was blown away how amazing they were. Having been to Paris, and from Chicago, where there are a variety of French Bakeries, I was pleasantly surprised how fabulous they were.I could not believe how the owner learned the craft of making them absolutely taste AS GOOD as the Paris Bakeries and Cafes that we visited! I am however appalled at reading the negative reviews by people who consider themselves authorities on a variety of subjects, with the intent, of keeping new potential customers away by their negative reviews. Everyone in this country has ancestors from somewhere, give the guy a break learning how to operate in this country, getting his staff educated (which is a nightmare everywhere) teaching customer service in this country which is different here with different expectations! The place was definitely comfortable, if your expecting an atmosphere like Carmel, Indiana, this is not for you. Itâs a very nice little gem in Greenwood Indiana. Someone mentioned that the prices were high. Well, I donât know where they have been shopping, have you seen the cost of eggs lately? You will never get a croissant of that caliber with the education that went behind it for this price ,definitely was not over priced but if you wanna go to Walmart or Costco, then you get what you pay for,it really irritated me that that was one of the concerns. And if you want to guarantee getting your croissants or pastry go early in the morning and phone first to make sure that theyâre open.. And also if you want a bakery item donât wait until the afternoon to get it,get there in the morning and then youâll be assured to get what you want and if you canât get it in the morning then thereâs always other places you can go, but to criticize someoneâs new business and keep other people from going, because Youâre having a bad day and donât want to handle the situation differently and instead try to insult people that are working very hard getting up at one or two in the morning to bake the pastry Canât you just give someone a break? I do not want to see another business fail, with all the businesses that are going out of business .do what your mother said if you canât say anything nice about some somebody keep your mouth shut I can hardly wait for the negative responses about this. But I wonât be reading them. Iâm here to say they were fabulous. I had great customer service, but then again, I treat people with respect and patience and understand that this is not an easy job. They have to get up early and stand all day long and try to be nice to everybody even the grouchy people.I noticed one of the comments said they really didnât care for the pastry and then they went on to say âMaybe they just donât like French pastry. âWell, then why write the review why do you have to put that out there? This is terrible how people try to ruin peoples businesses that are trying very hard to overcome a language barrier and do a good job and just make a buck . Everyone sees how many big corporations have been going out of business, big chain stores, why do we have to insult the little guy whoâs just trying to do a good job. If you donât like it, donât write about it either tell them and donât go back. You donât have to ruin their business by writing nasty remarks because you feel important...
Read moreI just want to preface this by saying I consider myself somewhat of a pastry connoisseur! I love any type of baked good and have worked in bakeries before. I have lived in NY, Austin, SC, indiana and have traveled to many countries and states. This pastry shop is just OK. Iâm gunna get a lot of flack for that, but I just wasnât super impressed by mostly everything I tried. The croissants and the cheese danish I will say are great; I have tried every flavor minus the rum one. They are buttery and big and flavorful. However, everything else I tried was either bland or borderline bad? The crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e should be great at a French bakery and it was meh at best. The scones literally tasted like a ball of dough with no extra flavor. The eclairs were ice cold when I hit into themâŠ.and hard and just tasted like they had been defrosting from a case. They were also filled with this bland chocolate cream which I found odd as eclairs are traditionally a more pastry cream/custard type filling. The service is also okay, not great. They have a tendency to not listen to their customers well. Every time I have been there the lady working checkout asks me if I want my receipt and every time I say yes, however I never get one! I have literally watched her throw it out directly after I say yes. It is so odd. Also the second time I went, I clearly asked for a napoleon and they gave me an eclair instead? I didnât realize until I got home as I ordered a ton of things and couldnât keep track, but it just seems like the norm there. I would say go for the croissants but...
Read moreI REALLY wanted to fall in love with this place. The staff is very nice and the food looks beautiful. However, I am sad to say the food lacked flavor. Vanilla pastry puff - ridiculous amount of cream and again, shockingly lacked flavor. I ended up trying to secretly throw it away so the staff wouldn't be offended.
Regular croissants are fine, not the best I've ever had, but they are decent. The chocolate croissant had very little chocolate on the inside and only started less than halfway through the pastry. If you buy a chocolate croissant, you expect it to have chocolate throughout, and literally about 70% of the bites I took had zero chocolate in it.
The one pastry I did enjoy was the ham and cheese croissant. It was cooked throughout (which some other bakeries struggle with) and the added ingredients improved the flavor.
Staff was nice enough, but didn't really smile or interact with us. Maybe just tired on a busy day? Can't really fault them for that, just not stellar or above and beyond.
I would give the pastries a 3/5 - more beauty than substance. If you're trying to get Instagram photos or something, you'd love this place. If you are a true pastry lover and have been blessed to have truly good pastries, this place is .... meh. Sorry, but that's my honest opinion as someone who has had really good pastries in Indy and around the world. I'd be interested in trying different items on another day to see if...
