I am totally a 3 strike kind of guy when it comes to a place I was not sure of . This is my 3rd visit . So here I go. Food was sitting out to long e.g. stuffed mushrooms were so dry, if you ate one you could feel your mouth drying out . The soup had been sitting so long , it had a film sitting on top of it . I literally had to mix it up the task was harder than it sounds it felt like gravy not soup , the sesame chicken had been sitting in the sauce so long it tasted like wet chicken jerky . (That is culinary genius wet jerky) Flavor missing . e.g. wasabi is a root spice. It is the same as horse radish. It should tickle/ burn the nasal passages when you consume it . This you could have eaten the whole container and it would not have any spice in it . And not to mention the broccoli and chicken had no flavor, the Sesame chicken had no flavor , and the sushi had little flavor. The chocolate pudding was bland (how do you mess up pudding?) The only items that I ate that tasted right were the cantaloupe , the honey dew mellon and the cream cheese wanton ( so at least we know nature is doing it right , and they got 1 mixed and cooked right , but I am sure it's been sitting out for a bit.) The price it was $10.25 after taxes with a water. (which I downed after the dry mushrooms.) The restaurants seem to be relatively clean they were wiping the tables as needed until you looked at the ceiling in which case you could see stains all over the ceiling.
In conclusion I would like to say that I gave this place 2 stars only because I saw no insects in my booth or on the surrounding areas . Since this is the only Chinese buffet in Greer that I know of. I would save your money , and if you have the gas go to the Supreme Hibachi Grill 15 minutes down the road and eat at a good Chinese buffet. Just skip this place . I hope this has been helpful in your search for a...
Read moreWe moved here in 2015 and tried this place out. The food was good but it was always cold. We tried it a few more times and it was the same thing, food always cold. A couple weeks ago we got reassured by a few people on Facebook that this place was better now.
So after 8 years we gave it another shot today. I wish I could say it was better now, but it just is not.
They open at 11:00, we got here at 11:20. They already had maybe 10 tables. We started with egg drop soup, it was good and pretty warm, I was hopeful. Then I tried the sushi, it was good probably my favorite thing here.
Then I tried the crab Rangoon, chicken on a stick and egg roll. Crab Rangoon was so curdled and dried out I took one bite and left it on the plate. I wish I would have taken a picture of it opened up, but if you look at my Pic you can see it it seeping out from the top and all dried out. Chicken on a stick was room temp and dry. The egg roll was almost warm and tasted pretty good.
Still trying to find something good I got the sesame chicken, stuffed mushroom and peanut butter chicken. The sesame chicken was the same as everything else, cold. Stuffed mushroom was probably cooked the day before it was so old. Peanut butter chicken, was really tough, but had good flavor.
By this time I was done. I grabbed some desert and got out of there.
I really wanted this place to be better. There's a Chinese buffet in Taylors and their food is always hot. You can see the steam coming out of their containers while at New China they just float around on water. I really think if they'd just update their buffet warmers maybe they food would stay a little hotter.
Anyway I'm sorry. I really hoped for a good experience. I believe I've given this place more chances that it deserves. Whoever told me that it was better now is either a liar or delusional. I...
Read moreWhat a variety of opinions!! Hint for those who haven't figured it out -- you don't go to a Chinese buffet unless it's between the hours of 11:00 - 1:00 and 4:30 - 7:30. A few poor reviews actually admit they went at 3:00 etc. All Chinese buffets are horrid if you go when it's slow. Having said that, it's also apparent they watch their money insofar as putting out new food when things get low. One time I wanted more fish, and they literally refused to put more out, BUT AGAIN IT WAS GETTING TOWARD 8:00 p.m. and there were only a handful of us in the place. If I'd asked, they probably would have made a single serving. Honestly, if you like the steamed shrimp on ice like I do, almost nothing matters -- you eat a pound of that, and you've eaten your money's worth, and it's impossible to screw up. Most other dishes are reasonably good -- egg drop soup is a fine worldwide standard. As far as "atmosphere" this place is an old Shoney's, and I'm sure they don't have a budget for all new tables and booths. I've looked around the area, and this is HANDS DOWN a better value than other offerings.
UPDATE 06/20/19....I went back recently during later end of prime time and they had no salmon fish out the entire time I was there....the cook was out surveying counts and I TOLD HIM to make some and he put his hands up in the air. The hostess chick later told me he didnt know English....FINE then why didn't he summon her? I think they're in the penny pinch death spiral.
UPDATE 01/18/24....EXCELLENT in all respects. Huge salmon available, everything fresh, big crowd on a Friday night. Paid exactly $14.00 with tax no drink. They lost money on me but I'd think in general people aren't going to eat $14 of food. Decor updated including new tile in...
