And when I say this is the BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN PORTLAND, I mean it!!!! Y’all I’m telling you, I had this like euphoric experience eating this food because it reminded me so much of home - my ancestors, my roots, my culture, my family!
I’ll start by saying this: my biggest annoyance with a lot of Portland Mexican restaurants is how greasy the food is, everything feels so heavy and fattening and the beans will get covered in melted cheese. The rice will be like really dry and flakey and tastes BLAND. The meat will be kinda mid too.
Well tonight I started craving Mexican food but I wanted like healthy Mexican food. So I googled “healthy Mexican food” and this placed popped up. So I ordered it from Uber Eats!
I got the mulita plate with steak & added avocado and it comes with beans and rice and OMG.
The steak is SOOOO JUICY and tasty! Everything was SEASONED to the gods!!!!! It also came with some carrots on the side that packed a little heat to them but not like spicy hot, just seasoned with a small kick. The rice was REAL rice and actually fluffy and SEASONED!! I swear I’m so picky about rice so the fact it actually tasted flavorful really meant a lot to me! The beans were flavorful and so light and actually covered with traditional cotija which really is the cherry on top! The tortillas weren’t greasy too like everything was so light and fresh. I cannot believe I’m just now finding out about this place.
I’m definitely taking my friends here when I get the chance, I already texted them about it because I know they will love it, same with my mother! I know it seems weird to have this reaction over food but this food really means a lot to me because it made me feel connected to my heritage and the comfort made me emotional. Thank you to the chefs and owner of this beautiful establishment! I hope they see this and understand the impact they make on the...
Read moreCalled an order in for 8 queso tacos, 1 birria torta, and an order of chips and queso. Pick the food up get home and I was given 8 regular birria tacos (no queso) 1 torta with only birria on there, it had a soggy bun but the bun was also stale on the outside. I called about the tacos, the lady said she put the order in wrong but she only charged us for regular tacos not queso tacos. We tried to eat the regular tacos but they were super dry and tasteless. The torta wasn’t good either. I called to see if I could have a refund for the 6 tacos that were remaining if I brought them back. They kept putting me on hold and hung up on me twice. I wasn’t rude but they seemed annoyed that we didn’t like their food. We really did try to spice the tacos up ourselves but they just aren’t good. We will stick with Birriera La Plaza. We just wanted to try a new place. We have had their breakfast burritos at El Jefe, they are pretty good. Our order was over $50 so some sort of refund would have been nice. Or atleast better customer service instead of just hanging...
Read moreEl Jefe Birria & Tacos has some strong points but also left room for improvement. The wet burrito was absolutely delicious and a highlight of the meal. However, I was disappointed that the birria plate came with store-bought corn tortillas instead of freshly made ones—fresh tortillas really make a difference.
When I asked for a cup of ice water, I was told they only sell bottled water, which felt inconvenient and disappointing. Additionally, the food was served on paper and plastic plates, similar to what you’d find at a birthday party, which detracted from the dining experience.
The birria meat could have been a bit more tender, and while they do provide salsas, they come in tiny plastic containers. A salsa bar would have been a much better touch, adding to the overall experience.
On the positive side, the food was served fairly quickly, which I appreciated. There’s definitely potential here, but some adjustments could enhance the overall...
