Mr. Chen's Chinese Kitchen — Restaurant in Gresham

Mr. Chen's was a fantastic recent find, especially after hearing from others in this group and other groups that the new owners have truly turned things around. After our visit, I wholeheartedly agree! And if you haven't tried my personal favorite Chinese spot in Gresham, Szechuan Open Kitchen, I highly recommend giving them a shot too! My family and I, including my kids and my elderly mother and father-in-law, were so impressed with the quality of the Americanized Chinese food at Mr. Chen's. It was genuinely some of the best we've had, and honestly, better than many options in Gresham. What really stood out was the incredible value – it's such a welcome surprise to find a place where six people can enjoy such delicious, high-quality food for under $100 and still have leftovers! We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and agreed it's definitely a place we'd happily return to support. Beyond the delicious food and great prices, the service was truly exceptional. Our server, who we learned is also part-owner, was incredibly kind and accommodating. She genuinely seemed to enjoy having us there, making us feel almost like part of the family with her warm nature and helpful recommendations. We also really appreciated how clean the restaurant was – it's always reassuring to see that level of care. The new owners have only been there for three months, having moved from Depoe Bay to provide their daughter with better opportunities. This isn't a big corporation; it's a family working incredibly hard to revitalize a restaurant, and their dedication shines through. In these challenging times for small businesses, especially restaurants, their effort and commitment are truly commendable. They offer delicious food, excellent service, a welcoming atmosphere, and fantastic value. If you're looking for a positive dining experience and a way to support a hardworking family right here in Gresham, Mr. Chen's might be a great option. Wrong and gross. Their postickers are apparently crab puffs. Their chow mein is a soupy mess. Their.. pineapple chicken? Just yuck. Their pepper chicken is mostly undercooked veggies and, although mediocre at best, still the only thing worth putting against your tongue. Bbq pork? Just flavorless dry meat.

The red sauce? THE FN RED SAUCE? Cocktail sauce. Ya, like shrimp cocktail sauce. Imagine attempting to moisten the dried out husk of what once was bbq chicken, expecting the intrepid taste of that staple, standard, red sauce... and being accosted by COCKTAIL SAUCE.

Just a disgusting mess that literally anyone can do better than.

Oh and their goods are in their dining area, people working out there and on the phone (what seemed private). So atmosphere is like you work...

1:00pm we arrive, first impression very nice decor and clean. 1:10pm start ordering, the food came out one by one faster than usual from other places if been. I rate my food on authenticity. Shrimp fried rice very poor quality. My vegetables stirfry was cold ,so cold the broccoli wasn't even bright green and so was everyones order was served with cold vegetables. Best thing we had was the egg flower soup that did not come with the meal was a added $1.50. I don't recomend this place if you want real authentic Chinese food. For the people who left 5 stars must have no taste palate, they can continue eating here.
