If you're craving a taste of the authentic Mexican cuisine right here in The United States, you can find it in a small town called Gretna, Virginia, look no further than JR's Mexican Grill! Nestled in the Food Lion Plaza, this gem is worth every bit of the 45-minute drive from Lynchburg for its authentic and mouthwatering Mexican cuisine.
From the moment we stepped in, we were transported back to our time in the desert with the warm and inviting ambiance. The walls adorned with festive decor and the soft strains of Mexican music set the perfect backdrop for a memorable dining experience.
Let's talk about the food – oh my! I ordered the brisket chimichanga, and it was a flavor explosion wrapped in a crispy burrito. The brisket was crispy yet flavorful, complemented perfectly by the savory spices and fresh ingredients. My wife opted for the ground beef chimichanga, which was equally delicious and satisfying.
To cap off our meal, we indulged in a dessert that was simply divine. Every bite was a celebration of sweet indulgence, leaving us completely satisfied and already planning our next visit.
What truly sets JR's Mexican Grill apart, though, is the incredible staff. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine warmth and treated like family throughout our meal. Their attentiveness and friendly demeanor added an extra layer of enjoyment to our dining experience.
If you're in the mood for authentic Mexican cuisine that rivals what you'd find in the heart of the Sonoran Desert, JR's Mexican Grill is the place to be. Whether you're a local or coming from afar like us, make the trip – you won't regret it!
PS- I almost forgot about the delicious chips and salsa! Fresh made excellent best I’ve had...
Read moreUpdate: We were on again tonight, as this has become our favorite restaurant in the area. Amazing service, best carnitas in the area, and the empanadas tonight were absolutely perfect. Every time we come here, we have a wonderful meal and a great experience.
We tried a dinner here a week ago and came back for my husband's birthday dinner tonight. It's that good.
They don't skimp on anything here. Even the refried beans are perfect. Shrimp are big and plentiful, the tacos are filled with meat, and they give you more than enough of anything. The guacamole has jalapeños in it but is perfectly creamy and fresh.
The tacos carnitas are some of the best I've ever had. The meat is perfectly cooked and the salsa served with them is hot but complex in flavor.
My husband had the quesadilla caliente our first time here, and he still talks about that meal. Tonight, he got the brisket chimichanga, and I got the brisket tacos. Such a lovely surprise to have a great smoky flavor with tender brisket.
Service is wonderful and attentive, and the prices are fair given the amount of amazing food you get. If you love more authentic Mexican food with deep flavors, you need...
Read moreFood was awful. They drenched every thing with their “homemade” queso cheese. It was to thick and tasted like straight American cheese. The fried ice cream was not fried. It was just ice cream tossed into a taco bowel with some toppings. The chicken quesadilla was disgusting. The chicken was so orange that it looked like Cheetos soup cause that to was drenched in American cheese sauce. The place was clean but I’m sure is was due to the restaurant being dead. I was the only customer there and two guys at different times came to the counter tried to help me but seemed to confused because I ordered online and they didn’t seem like they were familiar with it. The chimichanga again was drenched in the fake queso cheese. It was soggy. The food was just disgusting. Street corn was gross tasted like vinegar. My husband and I had a long day. We just wanted to relax and have someone else cook for us. What a HUGE disappointment and a waste of $54. Tired, still hungry even our dog snubbed his nose to the food. We would have been better off getting fast food at least they we would have know what we...
