For context of my review - I have been a customer of El Kiosco for 15 plus years. My husband and I had our first date here when we were 16. We have always believed in supporting small and local and have always chosen El Kiosco as our dinner spot in Grovetown when looking for a sit down restaurant with a homey and friendly atmosphere.
As of today, that is no longer the case. In all the years I've gone to El Kiosco I have never been charged more than $40 a plate. We have always ordered the same food, and never had to question the ethics of this restaurant.
Coming in today we ordered our usual two burrito plate with cheese dip and drinks. Come to the check and the total is $60! Apparently they are no longer doing the plates they had before and now charge INDIVIDUALLY for everything. They also now are charging 12.50 for a burrito if you get one that's not groundbeef, 9.00 if you get one with ground beef.
The excuse for this new pricing we were blind side with was "new menu, new pricing" - which, I'm sorry? You got a new flimsy plastic menu that looks like some fast food menu and you think that justifies charging more than buffalo wild wings for your food? Are you serious?
The audacity of the manager on staff - he asked if I read the menu and I said yes, in the sense that I checked to make sure the burrito we typically order was still an option and closed the menu. He said that if I choose not to read the prices theres nothing he can do. So the excuse here is that I made the mistake of trusting El Kiosco to be the family friendly and wholesome establishment it's been for 15 plus years... Got it.
If you like El kiosco, just know that they are NOT who they used to be and no longer care about the customer - just they're shiny plastic menus and bottom line.
Edit: based on the response from the restaurant, it's clear they don't care about this feedback - no one cares if you raise your prices with the increase in quality. That's common sense. That's not what you've done here. The food is exactly the same. The restaurant, booths, everything, is exactly the same. Claiming it's due to an increase in quality... Do you think your customers are stupid? How insulting.
If there has ACTUALLY been a change in good/quality/atompshere then my complaint would be invalid. That being said, anyone who has been to El Kiosco knows damn well their food tastes and is the same quality as it always has been, and it certainly is not worth what they're...
Read moreMy Wife thoroughly enjoys the cuisine offered by El Kiosco and I like to make her happy. The service is friendly and professional. Food is brought out quickly after ordered . The decor sets the atmosphere of a Latin American establishment . Hand crafted custom made booths are roomy for parties of four and some accommodate more patrons. Complementary chips and salsa are brought to every table before orders are taken by the wait staff. The menu is vast covering beef, chicken, pork and seafood entrÊes. Soups, salads and appetizers are also optional selections that will excite a person's palate to prepare for their main course of authentic Mexican cuisine . The bar offers a wide range of adult beverages including beer and hard liquor. Of course Margaritas are often sought-after at this place. Yes, prices for food and beverages are fairly easy on the wallet for most incomes and there are many selections available to suit those who a budget conscious. For the most part my visits to E lKiosco are enjoyable and l appreciate the sincere appreciation demonstrated by the wait staff. I will say tonight, the patrons sitting in the booth next to us seemed to feel it was necessary to speak as if their conversation was taking place at a football stadium during the game. Additionally, their dialog included metaphors and expressions more suitable for men's lockerroom banter rather than what you'd expect at a family restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. No, I did complain. We ate our food paid a bill and left a generous cash tip. Yes. I recommend this place. It is a gem...
Read moreWhile admittedly the restaurant was busy, my meal was a let down, at best. Having been here once before, and returning for the salsa, I found the wait staff had forgot to take my order to start with. After that they failed to refill my drink, until a kind staff member left eating her meal to refill it when she saw me unsuccessful in flagging down a waiter. I ordered a Chile Relleno and a chimichanga that came with rice and beans. When asked they said the relleno was not frozen and made fresh. It was the soggiest and sorriest relleno Iâve ever had. The chimichanga was the toughest shell and I hade to cut it with a knife and that was not easy. It was not crunchy that showed it was just fried, but rather it was like day old dough that was fried, chilies then cooked in an oven. I was expecting beef but they used steak, and had it had any flavor I would have liked it, but with no flavor and then charged extra for what I didnât ask for was unbelievable. On top of all that, in addition to the crazy amount of queso out on everything (not a good thing), the âmanagerâ admitted the relleno ls are made early in the morning including frying them, then reheated for dinner⌠Mgmt offered nothing, no discount another visit/meal, etc. until 5 min later when they saw me typing this review. Then they offered a couple of dollars offâŚ
Iâve just arrived in Grovetown for work and wonât be back here again. I donât recommend this place for anyone since more tasty food can be found at Taco Bell and for...
