I went here because all of you inexperienced people gave this dumpy place a 5 star rating. A couple of big cans of tomato sauce and some Italian cookies does not a 5 star Italian market make!!! If you want to know what a real 5 star Italian market is, go to Rosario's in Montclair's, Watchung Plaza. Then you will know and hopefully stop raving about these run of the mill dumpy nothing places. So I was going to get a roast beef and provolone with lettuce, tomato and oil and vinegar sub. After all, several reviewers said how absolutely wonderful they are here. Fortunately the guy in front of me ordered just that. The guy behind the counter cut the slices from the absolute bitter overcooked riddled with fatty veins end of a piece of roast beef. He could only get tiny little pieces of the dryed out looking beef with thick fatty veins because he was so close to the end of the piece of beef. It looked terrible. To make it worse he then put the even smaller piece back in the counter. I fell sorry for whoever gets that. So I had a ham, salami and provolone with lettuce, tomatoe, oil and vinegar sub. The bread crest was very thick and very hard to bite through. Hardly any oil and vinegar on it at all. Dry. Tomatoes weren't very fresh either. If you want a good sub with no compromise simply go to Jersey Mikes, where you get the freshest ingredients. Tomatoes to die for. Needless to say I will never go someplace based on the ridiculous reviews on Google. There should be some sort of vetting process to be able to post reviews on any web site. The general public is always so stupid, naïve and horribly inexperienced and willing to give bubbling reviews for even the worst places. This place is not a 5 star market. This place does not make 'the best subs in New Jersey'. I would only go there again if I lived down the street and didn't have a car to drive to a good place!!! Come on people,...
Read moreThis fine Italian deli has been around since 1996. I used to work up the block and came here regularly for lunch sandwiches or a homemade chicken parmesan or eggplant parmesan. I moved out of the area after retiring, and I was back visiting in Hackensack. We went here for lunch hero sandwiches. We all opted for a number 10, turkey with fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, and balsamic vinegar. Ooooh, so good! Just like what I remember from 25 years ago. Cosmo looks the same..... just a little older! We washed the sandwiches down with Dr Brown' cream sodas. They also carry Stewart's sodas. Wow! You don't find that delicious soda in a deli often. Cosmo carries the best products! BTW: the sandwiches are loaded up with the ingredients; there's no skimping here. I totally forgot sandwich photos before I ate half, as we all dove in to eat after getting home. Parking is just behind the deli. If you're traveling down Rt 4, get off at either Main St (eastbound) or Kinderkamack Rd (westbound). I highly recommend this excellent Italian deli. It's...
Read moreI cannot believe I have never written a review for this place! I go here at least once a week and if I miss a week I feel empty inside (okay slight exaggeration). I think 25% of the pics on Yelp for this place are mine lol. I've only been going here for about 5 years and I work a few blocks away which makes it my go-to Italian sandwich shop. Honestly I don't even know what to write in this review because I have tried pretty much everything and everything is top notch! The prices are unbeatable for what you get. High quality, real deal fresh Italian ingredients. Such a simple place with simple things. Don't miss out on some of their specials either! Tuesdays and Fridays they have Eggplant Parm, Wednesdays they have hot roast beef with gravy, and Thursdays they have amazing Porchetta! They always have Chicken Parm and chicken cutlets also! Get their fresh mozzarella on everything! It's out of this world! They also offer Meatballs w/penne or on a hero as well as homemade soups. Cash only and they close early (around...
