Always come for the deals, but sad they removed 1/2 price enchiladas and nachos during the week. The music can be pretty loud inside, especially if they have the mariachi band blasting throughout the entire restaurant. One time I walked in not feeling the best from a headache and requested a table in front away from the band, but the hostess wouldn’t accommodate and said the only available dining area was the same room as the musicians. The entire front dining area was completely empty, not a single person in there, yet they just had to herd every customer in the same room as the mariachi band. Seating near the windows can get pretty cold too, and a good portion of tables are literally right against windows. The food is always tasting great, but the real issue is the outdated menu pricing. On multiple occasions we’ve ordered and we’re surprised by items on the bill. Nachos are listed at $13. We decided to order them and our waitress asked what protein we’d like with it, thinking it came with. Apparently it was an add on, but there’s nothing on the menu saying that protein was extra nor did the server say it was another charge. Also a small side of vegetables is $7.95 now, not $5 as the menu lists. It’s not even a decent mix; it’s cheap filler of mostly peppers and onions, with some squash. I’ve talked with our waiters about both of these but all they can say is that menu isn’t correct. If all of menus aren’t correct, then they should get fixed to not lead customers astray and pay more than they should. The main menu is online anyway, all QR codes. You’re cutting corners by putting everything on a pdf, how much does that cost you to retype some accurate numbers? It’s not like you have to print out hundreds of papers. Listen, the food here always tastes great and I leave satiated. But it’s obvious I will only be coming here for the taco specials, either on Tuesday or between 5-6 pm. I suppose it is better than going to a On the Border though, so...
Read moreWe got there at 1:40 and didn’t get our orders taken till 20 min after being sat (including drinks). After ordering drinks first, we didn’t get our cokes till about 10 minutes after ordering them. We weren’t given napkins and they would take long to bring us the chips like why ask if you’re not going to bring them? We ordered an appetizer and they still hadn’t brought out the chips mind you the app we ordered went with chips. We weren’t given plates, our server came to bring us plates and there were 4 of us the top plate was clean the bottoms 3 were dirty, he left and came to bring plates when we were more than halfway done with it. Then our food came out and we still didn’t have napkins OR utensils WE WERE EATING RICE!!! There was a table next to us that arrived AFTER we did and they got their food first. They continued to come out for that table and we were right next to them. It was like we were being ignored. They got their drinks first appetizers first and food first. Then we finally got the chips AFTER the food. They didn’t come out to check up on us which was weird because they usually do that at restaurants. They took one of our cups after asking if we wanted a refill and brought the coke out after 10-15 min. We only had 1 person order one drink that wasn’t coke, like are they making the coke in the back from scratch? We finished eating and they didn’t come to the table AT ALL. I had to go in and ask for the bill. When he dropped off the first bill, we asked for to-go containers and that was at 2:57 we had to go inside and ask and got them at 3:22. The worst part of it was the fact that it wasn’t busy, imagine it during a rush. The food was good but the customer service was not good and might’ve been the worst I’ve ever experienced. We didn’t even want to try and order desert. Even after it all we still...
Read moreYippy a real Mexican Restaurant in Hackensack! So happy they opened! There are 3 other locations in Wallington, Cliffside Park and Edgewater.
We don't drink so we ordered Tamarindo and Jamaica. Tamarindo tasted watered down but it was not super sweet like other places so it was ok. The Jamaica was not sweetened so ask before ordering unless you like it sour...
Guac comes in 2 sizes so we opted for the smaller portion which was perfect. It's fun to watch them make the guac :) Good creamy guac!
Street Tacos come in 3's but they allow you to have 2 flavors: 2 Carne Asado and 1 Al Pastor
Birria Tacos were the specials so not sure if they are permanently on the menu. They were so good!!!
We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu!
Update 11/1/22: Came back for taco Tuesday and Dia De Muerto
Ask for a paper menu, the QR code takes you to the Instagram page not the menu page...
Tues is half price taco and Mescal/Tequila. We don't drink, we came to eat.
Guacamole made table side was delicious, the added garlic gives it more flavor.
Birria Beef tacos were good. They are not part of the 1/2 price taco deal, which was ok since we didn't know it was 1/2 price tacos anyways.
Cochinita Pibil Taco Salad was good. The lettuce and tomato were too cold though. If they put some hot rice and beans, as a base, it might warm up the lettuce from beneath and the hot meat on top would warm down.
Pina Colada was good but the straws are so thin I wasn't able to drink it LOL
If you like Mescal and Tequila this is the place for you! They gave us a big...
