Sonny's BBQ — Restaurant in Haines City

For me, Sonny's defines average. First time at any of the outposts of this local chain, and it met my expectations, I left with a happy full belly and no major complaints. We received a friendly greeting upon entering, and that friendly service continued throughout the meal. This is a diner sort of a vibe, informal to the extreme, comfortable and familiar particularly to anyone with Southern small town living in their past. The lady who seated us highly recommended the baby back ribs, and there were nods of agreement all around. Only to discover seconds later they were out of baby backs and it would be a couple hours. Oh well. Waitress brough the beverages. Sweet tea (a very SWEET sweet tea) and ice water came in a 32oz styrofoam cup for easy carry-out later. Draft beer was cold and tasty. As for the BBQ, I have to disclose I'm from Texas and that leaves me with certain biases. In general Sonny's does not compare well to what I consider the BBQ stars of the Orlando area: Four Rivers, Rockin' John's and Ellie Lou's. But again, it was not bad at all. It just didn't have the deep smokiness that I like and consider essential. The exception was the ribs on my sampler platter. Must've been St Louis ribs since they were out of baby backs, but anyway these were excellent. Second favorite would be the smoked chicken, which was not dry at all and had a really nice flavor. So I'd stick with ribs and/or chicken here in the future. We probably enjoyed the sides more than the meats. The fried okra was good, and the mac & cheese flavorful and not just your run-of-the-mill stuff you might expect at a place like this. So to wrap up, this very well may be my one and only visit to a Sonny's, not because it was terrible at all, just because I can only eat so much BBQ and still fit into my clothes, and I rank this place pretty far down my list of Central...

I ordered through the app for pickup and almost half of my order was missing or wrong. I tried calling this location 7 times and no answer. I even tried corporate 3 different times (it said voicemail was full) and now email and still no response. This place is 45 minutes away and I have a high risk pregnancy and unfortunately can’t drive there and have to wait for my significant other to have time to take me.

Before we left we had even asked the person handing it to us if everything was in the back and they replied with yes. And this is why I have trust issues. All joking aside, items that pulled a magic trick and disappeared:( or had a slight error) -My pulled chicken and pork bowl. -My large corn that I paid an extra 5 dollars for a total of 9 something was given to me as a small that feeds less than two people. -My dry rub wings that were asked to be plain were sauced with sweet sauce. (no ranch I requested included either) -I upgraded my meal to include banana pudding dessert that I was looking forward too and that was missing.

The chicken looked red and bloody which I thought was a result of smoking (I thought it was normal but i couldn’t confirm) which I wish I could have gotten an answer to my multiple calls so we could eat it but my family would rather be safe than sorry and not eat it which is disappointing.

Overall the pulled pork was pretty good and so was the Mac and cheese and even though the ribs weren’t sauced with the smoky sauce I wanted it was still decent.

However I can not give this further than one star because there’s no way to contact these people and either get half of the food I was missing or my money back. :/ I’m just frustrated and...

I gave them 2 stars because after this I will no longer be a patron of this establishment. I am a frequent traveler so on 10/18 my dad asked me to stop there to eat. I agreed an went through the drive thru so we could keep going. I bought the family feast, along with extra meat and asked that they sub the pull pork, needless to say when I got home this was not my order. I immediately called and let them know. Kayla answered the phone and asked could I come back I told her I couldn't because of the time. She said no worries I putting your name on the board and we'll make the order right. Especially after what you paid. However, when I stopped today with my family I was told they could not honor what they said but could offer me 20% discount if I ordered. That was not what was said. I was told by the manager that person works here but they could not replace the order. I ask to speak to the general manager and was provided with the store number, after she stated I just spoke with him. However the waitress answered the phone and siad he'd left for the day. I said you're talking to me why he just didn't come speak to me. She didn't answer and just walked away. Then I was told you can call corporate if you want by the manager. If this is how you feel about your patrons thanks but no thanks. Your food may be decent but I still believe in being treated right when I spend money.
