We visited Hallowell seafood and produce 3 years ago on a quick trip to Maine. Justin took the time to talk with us about the business, the live lobster tank, and Hallowell in general. We were left with such a great impression, that we have been trying to get back for 3 years. Today we stopped in, ordering lobster tails, scallops, and picking up fresh local tomatoes, peaches, nectarines, and plums. We added some cheese, celery, and a Maine made cocktail sauce, that Hallowell's carries in the store, and had a delicious picnic style supper. We are excited that Hallowell's also ships, so we can order the delicious seafare and have it arrive to us in Tennessee!

I decided to go into the store finally after driving by a million times. I am so impressed! The store is full of fresh and local vegetables, fruits and proteins. Clean and friendly service. I'm so glad now I know a great place for fresh local produce options. I also purchased two woven lobster rope doormats as an impulse because they were so beautiful! And a great price for all the craftsmanship. So worth stopping in for a snack, dinner supplies for the family or larger parties. They were offering haddock at a special 5 lb for $45 or $13.99 a pound. Guess what's for dinner, I'll tell you local Maine corn and green salad with baked haddock.

UPDATE TODAY: These guys still rock. No matter what kind of seafood you want, Justin will find it. Today, I picked up 10 lb of fresh Cod part 😆. They were packed to perfection and extremely clean. I am from Newfoundland originally and grew up on cod . It was a long shot calling, but lo and behold, they came through AGAIN!!! THANKS GUYS 😋 😋 😋 Fresh seafood and lots of other items available to make a special dinner or charcuterie. Some might think some prices are high, but try going out to sea in February and catching it all yourself. Boys are doing a great job 👏

Crooked Crooked Crooked! for the second time RIPPED off. I went in with another person, bought 109.00 worth of seafood, we all heard the number. days later my husband asked me why did you spend + $144.00 for seafood??!! I said I didn't!!! I went though and even added up with sales tax, $108. I went in and asked for the guy to call me 2x. last time I went in I left my bank statement showing what he charged me and told him I am contacting the better business bureau, got a message. Then I go in, he was there, I tell him why I am there, he acts like new news to him and his ENTIRE demeanor changed; NASTY. By the way, this is the second time I got ripped off by this place. bought 3 lobsters for my parents right before I went back to my duty station in Germany. was supposed to be less than $30. my credit card was charged $60. YES SIXTY dollars for 3 1lb and 1/4 lobsters, he didn't think that was STRANGE??!!!! So this time when he told me the cost of my purchase I had a witness that the bill was 109.00 and my bank statement says 144. I see what is going on!!! HE is all MR. friendly, while he doesn't give an itemized receipt and pads the bill etc. BUYER BEWARE THIS GUY IS A SCUM BAG. Oh and he said, talk to my customers they are happy with me, and I laughed because I talked to 3 people and they told me how they order 1 pound of something, with other items, and he will sell you 3 pounds of something. nothing is marked, there is no weigh scale with the price print out. Never this would happen here. Cute store, guy seems friendly, talks fast repeats himself, catch him in his lie and you will see how it really is. FYI Still want to go there, watch the scale and GET your UN-itemized receipt! good for you buddy ripping off a 100% disabled vet trying to buy seafood for...

I was weary to go here after reading some reviews but I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. I bought a piece of cod here and I could immediately smell it once I got in the car. I don’t buy fish often so I drove back and asked if they could check if it was actually fresh because I could smell it without even being near it. They smelled it and said it smelled fine and asked me if I wanted to check the smell. No need I knew what it smelled like. Ok I trusted their judgement, even though I obviously should have gone with my gut. Brought it home and it smelled up my whole fridge and kitchen. I didn’t feel comfortable eating it, we all know fish shouldn’t smell that fishy. I was planning on bringing it back the next day (they were closed by this time) and the next morning my fridge smelled FOUL. I didn’t even want to bother with it anymore so I just threw it away and decided I just won’t be going back rather than go and try to get a refund. I already went back once and they said it “didn’t smell bad.” Anyway I was gagging throwing this fish away and the fact that I was expected to eat it and actually paid $15 for it is...

I have purchased there perhaps a dozen times in the past and have had good experiences. Yesterday I was not so fortunate and someone different was working there than I had seen previously. I purchased 2 lobsters, 5 pounds of steamers, crab meat and a coleslaw. First problem was that the lobsters were grabbed from the tank, immediately put in the bag and promptly weighed. This is a way sellers scam you by not draining the water prior to putting it on the scale. I remarked about it and the clerk did a half second drain of the water (when it should have been several seconds) and stated it did not make much of a difference. I told him that was expensive water at $13 a pound. Then I wanted crab meat and he remarked it was expensive at $20 a pound but since my wife loves that and not lobster I purchased a package. When I got home I weighed the small package and it was just a half pound but was charged for a full pound! I tendered a $100 bill for the $87.17 bill and he even made change for the 17 cents even though I saved them the credit card fees. I got cheated and was not impressed. Reluctant to go back again after...
