This is the best home cooking on this side of the Mississippi. I have been going to this cafeteria for over 30 years. I started going when my boys were less than 10 years old. My oldest is now 41. I started going in military Circle in Norfolk back in the 80s and now I go to the Newport News Virginia location since 1992. The funny part is the recipes taste the same so that good old southern cooking taste is indelible in my mind. Restaurants that have come close to this cooking taste was Morrison's Cafeteria, K&W Cafeteria. I just think Piccadilly's has been consistently excellent throughout the years. I like that you can get fish dropped while you're standing there so it's piping hot and ready. Always a good selection of meats like baked chicken fried chicken chicken tenders, fish, turkey and gravy w/dressing, liver and onions, ground Stteak patty, Salisbury steak, shrimp, and even there can be a couple different cuts of steak- ribeye, sirloin They have souffle carrots! This is my dessert and my side or my take out snack. It is so good and I drive from Fort Eustis to Mercury Boulevard location to get that carrot souffle. One time it was not on the bar, and I was so sad I just didn't even want to eat, LOL. The server was so tickled when I told her I couldn't eat without the carrots. But, the vegetables that they had were cabbage, greens, corn, green beans, brussel sprouts, and so many more . I love the selection of breads from yeast bread, cornbread and sometimes Southwestern cornbread, and ladyfingers. There's something for everyone. Even on special diets, every now and then Piccadilly's can work for you because of all the vegetables and varieties of salads that are served, but like everything else in moderation everyone can eat here. I have seen cafeterias come and go all my life. But life without Piccadilly's is just not in my long term range of goals. LOL. Everyone must try this one once please. They already have a huge local following with church-goers being a big part of that. I've seen every kind of uniform come through there during lunch so I try to steer clear of there then because apparently they're really busy. I like the evening hours because it's very sociable and it's very colorful on Sundays after church. I like looking at churchgoers Duds with all the hats. So for a nice outing with good food get there by 8 and you...
Read moreI've eaten at this restaurant for 40 years and the food was usually very good and priced well. #1:Took my mom for early Mother's Day meal and the food was terrible and cost almost $50 for a meal that always costs like around $34. The fish was literally like eating cardboard and cold, the liver was black and burned like it had been fried for hours. My mom's chicken breast was the size of a turkey breast and salty. Have they changed chefs or food vendors?#2: They've eliminated the 2 for $27. #3: This restaurant has not updated their decor in 40 plus years, same run down carpets and furniture. #4: The bathroom has the same rundown fixtures from 40 years with no handicap access whatsoever. #5: The first server in the food line was not helpful or pleasant. She acted as if she didn't want to answer questions about the food at all. Because the food was always usually delicious and priced well, I didn't care about the rundown decor as it was clean. But if the food prices are now raised through the roof, food is no longer good, and the furniture is falling apart, there is NO value in going there now. I live in a neighboring city and it's nowhere near my home, but for decades made the long drive to come for what was great tasting meals with a great pricing. Many memories of birthdays and Mother's Days celebrated here over 40 years looks like it's...
Read moreBEWARE! This place is in a serious need of pest control! Went in tonight for dinner to try a new place and there was a roach crawling on the booth seat we sat at. We immediately moved seats and notified our server. Our appetite was ruined honestly. Our server was very apologetic and she notified the manager who was a gentleman over seeing the service line and I also briefly saw him working on the register. Once notified he never came over to our table to say anything! Didnât even instruct anyone to at least wipe down the booth down or to be rid of the pest. They even allowed other guests to sit at the same booth. They couldâve put reserved signs at that particular booth or something so guests would not sit there. These pests can easily be transferred to guests and brought home to multiple in your home! Also they serve your food on plates that are chipped and cracked. As someone who works in food service this place was lacking in so many areasâŚThe dining area also has an unpleasant smell. My fish was cold my partner had to wait for his fish so his was hot. Mac and cheese was not good but it does look appetizing. Chicken and dumplings was okay was lukewarm desserts are good! I wouldnât recommend anyone to eat here unless you donât mind seeing roaches freely...
