Went after a trip to buy fireworks from the giant fireworks store in Hannibal.
For the appetizer, we had the loaded chips, wife had the Prime Rib Dip Sandwich with side salad, I had the Prime Rib Cheesesteak Sandwich with onion rings, kid had a cheese quesadilla with smiley fries.
Appetizer was good. Homemade chips with cheese sauce, shredded cheese, quite a bit of bacon, chives, and sour cream. Bacon could have been crisper in my opinion, but I like very well done bacon.
The wife's prime rib dip sandwich was a 2 out of 5 star. Came out warm. The Prime Rib was not seasoned. A little salt and pepper would have gone a very long way when cooking the shaved prime rib. There was no crust or deep browning of it. It was like it was put on the cold side of the grill to warm it up, instead of a good sear, which would have also added another depth of flavor. The Prime Rib was also not "shaved", it was more of thinly sliced. They had a Colby jack cheese sauce on it, which gave it a little bit of a weird texture, and didn't do much for flavor since Colby jack is a mild cheese. Something like provolone or Swiss slices would have also made this sandwich quite a bit better. The hoagie roll, which was more like a hot dog bun, was not toasted, so when you dipped it into the aju, the bun disintegrated. The main thing it had going for it was the aju, and the decent serving size.
Prime Rib Cheesesteak Sandwich. 2 star. Same flaws as above. Came out warm. No seasoning, no sear. Tasted like it was just warmed up. The onions and peppers were cooked decently, they were almost completely soft, but still had some texture to them. The cheese, which should have complimented the steak, was again, flavorless due to it being Colby jack cheese sauce. It tasted like it was a ruox with shredded coly jack. It definitely needed a sharp cheese with just a little bit of funk. A Swiss or provolone cheese would have also gone a very long way. The hoagie roll was the same thing on this one. A good toast would have added another texture. Steak was thinly sliced, not shaved. Good serving size. The onjon rings were phenomenal. Nice lite and well seasoned breading that was crispy and the onions were cooked through.
Kids quesadilla with smiley fries. This is the only dish that actually came out piping hot. Kid was the only one that had to wait for his food to cool down.
Service was good but confusing. Host sat us, and got us drinks pretty quickly. Waitress came around and took our order within about 5 minutes. This is good so far. Someone different other than our waitress delivered the food. OK, I get it if they are busy, but they didn't seem overly busy, and as I said above, most of the food was warm. Had someone else stop by to ask how everything was, and then when we were close to being done, is when our waitress stopped by to ask how everything was, grab us to go boxes, and drop off the bill. So I was confused on it I tipped, who it was going to, and why. I don't mind a host to get us started. Streamlines the process. I like to have my server take our order, and and make sure we are fine. Just check on us once or twice, make sure we don't want/need anything else, give us our bill, and then I tip knowing my tip is going to my server. Call me old fashioned. I've been there, I've done the job, and it's hard work, but I didn't have other people take care of my tables. I took care of them.
As for the atmosphere, it's a small restaurant, but they have plenty of room between tables. We did not feel like sardines in a can. We had room to enjoy our meal.
I can't confidently recommend this place. If something as simple as "shaved prime rib" isn't seasoned or seared, and was not hot, I don't think I could recommend spending $30+ on a steak that probably wouldn't be seasoned or seared.
We probably will not be returning due to the food. Service and atmosphere were good. But those should compliment the food, which was filling, but...
Read moreI can't even give them a half star after last night. Then I ordered over there phone a 1 1/2 hour earlier..I basically paided 58.00 dollars for lost, cold, incorrect and ruled service..bucket of bolts , with crawfish and clams, with corn nuggets, fried pickles for my fiance, and I was supposed ham the rustic oak bacon extra cheese cheeseburger with fries, and sweet potatoes fries..now all this is supposed to be fresh and not lost for sure but, that wasn't even the best thing.I get there half to wait for my order although the woman I placed the order with said it would be ready for 5:25, well I got there for 6:30 and they sa,(I'm sorry ma'am but we're alittle backed up and it will be a fun minute.6:00 is when my order was ready,Then they can't find it and I just left to go sit in my car.Two girls had to look and the young rude one was very unprofessional.Thank God the older lady came and dee what was the issue...well she found it reassured me it was correct and it was hot bc I waited so long..THAT was a good lie to get a first time paying, unhappy and just disappointed customer. Then I call the next day which was today, who ever answer there phone and claims that she worked last night and that they were busy refuses to help me. She was very rude and unprofessional, then has the audacity to hang on a customer who has nothing to say to her but ask permission nicely to speak to her manger or whoever is in charge... This was my very first time eating at The Supposed to be GREAT rustic oak and NEVER,EVER have I seen ruled, unorganized, down right very unprofessionally workers/worker??)NOW I called back for the second time and get told that the manager is not there and I have to call back tomorrow at are you serious.. I don't like talking bad about a restaurant especially if it was only my first time eating there but this place is unreal never again and I can't wait to talk to her boss or somebody that knows what...
Read moreI am not one to send food back, never mind send it back twice! I cannot remember the last time I was so repulsed... the last time I had such a disgusting dinner and service experience. I wish I could post a picture here of my 'prime rib' dinner. It was very thin, heavily gristled and extremely overcooked; so I sent it back. The next one was the color of boiled meat, and as cold as if it had come directly from the refrigerator... very off-putting, to say the least! When the waitress, accompanied by the manager, brought my plate back the original piece of meat was on the plate, with the same knife slice I had made in it to confirm how overcooked it was to begin with! I confronted the manager about it; she denied it claiming that she had sliced it in the kitchen to check the doneness. Right. Even if that were true, which it was not, restaurants are not supposed to slice halfway across your meat before bringing it to the table. At any rate, it was still barely warm. It still looked boiled. It was still completely full of gristle. The baked potato was close to room temperature, too cool to affect the pat of butter I applied to it. The green beans seemed to have been plated directly from a tin with no heat ever having been applied to them. DON'T EAT...
