Stopped in here while visiting Hannibal and looking for a sit-down meal that wasn’t fast food—and I’m glad we did. The food was solid. Not gourmet by any means, but definitely good for being out of town and not really knowing the local food scene. Let’s just say it beat going to the Burger King next door by a long shot.

The service was friendly and efficient. We were seated quickly, but not long after we arrived, the place filled up fast and a wait line started forming. That tells you something right there—it’s clearly a local favorite, especially for breakfast. The portions were generous, prices were fair, and everything came out hot and fresh.

The inside had that classic Midwest diner feel—nothing fancy, just comfortable and familiar. The crowd seemed like a mix of locals and travelers, and the staff handled the rush well. From what I gathered (and overheard), the cinnamon rolls and biscuits & gravy are fan favorites. I didn’t try them this time, but they looked great coming out of the kitchen.

Would I go back? Yeah, if I’m in the area again, I’d return. That said, I’d also be open to trying something new nearby just to explore a bit. But if you want a straightforward, reliable meal with no surprises and solid service, Country Kitchen does the job just fine.

Adding a few pictures with this review—outside signage, a couple of interior shots, and of course, the food. Always helps to show folks what they’re...

This by far was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had in my life!! I ordered the skillet which was extremely dry and very disgusting. My son's fish was raw we tried to tell the waitress and she said that's just the way it is here! They charged me $2 for a bowl of gravy to try to cover up the disgusting this and it was still disgusting. I asked her to please remove the gravy because had I had a decent Skillet to begin with I wouldn't have needed gravy. Then they proceeded to talk to other customers about what's going on with our family. And when my son told her not to be talking about his wife like that to strangers she told him to shut his mouth! Then I tried to tell the manager what was going on with one of his employees talking about our situation to people we don't even know complete strangers and he told me that he did not see or hear anything well no because he's up in the front of the kitchen and she was in the back of the dining area. He told me I didn't need to be hostile when all I did was ask could I please pay my bill after waiting 30 minutes because I asked him to remove a dollar 99 gravy. Do yourself a favor and don't come here to eat and they are extremely...

Food was really good although not very warm. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Ladies restroom had no paper towels in either dispenser and staff person shrugged shoulder and said towel roll sitting on lavatory counter to tear off.

New visit 4/21/23. Ordered crepes, (strawberry chocolate) and was dismayed to receive almost cold greasy crepes loosely rolled with way too much whipped cream. I almost cried.

Revisited 3/18/24. Ordered pork tenderloin and onion rings 'special ' but the meat had lots of grissel and not much flavor while onion rings were definitely frozen variety. I should have ordered the fried chicken 'special ' although they said to allow 25 minutes for cooking... however tenderloin took 30 minutes to appear at our table! Boohiss.

Revisited 8/2/24. Ordered pork tenderloin and onion rings. Good meat this time but several onion rings were burned (ewww). Tenderloin was special for the day but took a long time to...

Hostess sat us quickly. Another lady brought our coffee fairly quickly for how busy they were on a Sunday morning at 11:30am. I ordered a western omelette, add CRISPY CRISPY bacon, with pancake- NO BUTTER. As I was giving my order the waitress kept looking around at other people/tables; I knew my order was not going to be correct. My bacon was chewy & definitely NOT CRISPY, I had to pick it out. The pancakes came with 2 huge globs of butter on top. The only 2 napkins we got the entire time were the 2 our silverware were rolled in. The coffee pot kept leaking every time we used it. Before our food came I asked fir more sugar, she never brought it; I had to switch our sugar tray with the table across from us. 2 breakfasts with 2 coffees was over $30.

Experience was awful. Went to have breakfast and all I got was a headache from the waitress and food was nasty. Ordered that hamburger skillet and the hashbrowns came out raw and not crispy. When we confronted the waitress she said that was the way they were supposed to be and if we wanted crispy hashbrowns we would have to wait longer because it takes longer to make crispy hashbrowns. It might just be me but I would wait longer on crispy hashbrowns instead of raw potato. The only bright side of the visit was the very nice manager. It's a shame Country Kitchen has went down hill. It's 1 of only 2 places in Hannibal to have a sit down breakfast and we will not be back.
