China House — Restaurant in Hanover Township

Moved to the area and China House is the only Chinese food I could find in Cedar Lake. We are used to frequent Chinese carry-out where I used to live so thought we would order something we were familiar with for comparison to our favorite place. Ordered Sweet and Sour Pork, Pork Fried Rice, and Egg Foo Young. It came with white rice, gravy for the Egg Foo Young, Sweet Sour Sauce and a couple of Fortune Cookies. My carry-out order was fast, and hot. The person working was nice and also sanitary (wore rubber gloves) and mask due to Covid. My Sweet & Sour Pork was tasty, breading good and crispy, but I thought the pieces of pork (actual meat) was small compared to my old place. The sauce was tasty but had no pineapple or tomato in it like my old place. The Pork Fried rice was as expected good. The Egg Foo Young was good and the gravy was good. I will give them another try and hoping it will be good as this area is growing and a Chinese restaurant is needed. **Addition to original review: Went back for a 2nd time - I added 2 new photos. I decided to try the beef and broccoli dish and pork fried rice again to compare to my favorite place back home. The fried rice was the same as before - as expected and was consistent to the first time I ordered it. The beef broccoli dish had fresh broccoli, tender beef but the gravy had a different taste than my go to place at home, so wasn't 100% sold on it, but that doesn't mean someone else wouldn't like it. #ChineseFoodCedarLake #ChinaHouse...

My family tried it one time, and that was the last. The chicken was extremely dry to the point that it had a dark, crispy texture to it. That isn't how it is supposed to be for Kung Pao anyways! The chicken actually looked like burnt, very small chunks of something not like chicken. The rice was flavorless. The reason i am posting this is that i actually want this place to survive because this is the only chinese in Cedar Lake (or cedartucky side some know it as). I hope this helps the owners in trying to find out why business is so slow there. Ownetrs: Please read these reviews & heed them. We want you to upgrade the food quality there so you can succeed!!

Edit 12/07/17: IF you want REAL Chinese especially more on the Cantonese side of the country, I can PROMISE you that Kow Loon in Schererville WILL knock your socks off! You not only get great quality fresh ingredients but you get a HUGE portion of food with your order for very little $$!! I've known these owners since age 14 & know for a FACT they go to Chicago Chinatown for their fresh daily...

CHINA HOUSE located in Cedar Lake, IN is a warm friendly place with good food. Upon arriving I was promptly greeted & seated in a booth. The restaurant itself is colorfully decorated with trinkets, bamboo plants, oriental statues & lanterns/umbrellas for sale. We ordered Beef Fried Rice, Beef & Broccoli along with Egg rolls & Crab Ragoon which were delicious. The service was good, restaurant clean and price point comparable to similar venues.
