The Original Nana's Hot Dogs — Restaurant in Hanover Township

I usually make a beeline for Portillo’s anytime I visit a city that has a location, especially when visiting Chicagoland. Today I decided to look at review and see what the locals really like and came across some older reviews in the local media (paper/TV/news) about this place, so I came here.

The manager who rang me up was excellent, very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. Their menu is pretty nicely done and since I love to try an Italian Beef and Chicago Dog when I visit places, they had a meal deal with a mini Italian Beef and a hot dog that can be done Chicago style. The deal came with a drink and fries and was only $12.45 – great price for all that food!

They will grill (open flame) your hot dog if you request, so I tried that as I’ve never had a grilled Chicago Dog. The food came up pretty quickly and was piping hot. The dog looked like a messy, it wasn’t on a poppy seed bun either, but the flavor was excellent and the peppers were spicy. Overall, I really liked it, but not nearly as much as Portillo’s.

The Italian beef weas just “ok” to me. The beef tasted decent, but was slightly dry and unflavored. The jus was decent. The bun was OK. The giardiniera was nice and spicy and was my favorite thing about this sandwich.

The fries were pretty decent… they looked and tasted like they were double-fried, which is nice. I had the need to visit the restroom while there, that was interesting. It’s literally a walk through their entire kitchen to get to. It was VERY clean though, which was nice. I did get to see “behind the scenes” while making this walk and the cleanliness of the kitchen and food handling was impressive, considering the front of house looks old and has signage falling apart.

Overall, it was decent, but didn’t hit like Portillo’s...

Haven't visited here in 2 years and decided to order delivery. I ordered around 6pm. By 7 the order still had not showed up. Gave them another 30 minutes still nothing. So I decided to call at this point which I asked what was going on. The woman who answered the phone then started to act like she called me to verify my order. I let it go ans verified I ordered online. She said someone would be coming soon...

15 minutes later a nice gentleman shows up at my door and hands me the bag.

After he leaves I open the bag and look at the receipt. First thing I notice is im charged 5 dollars for delivery not 3 dollars like the website i ordered on says. So now we have take 2 more dollars of my money.

Second, when you order an everything hot dog you expect everything. Apparently at nanas that meana onion and mustard only. But ok ill let it slide.

Third, the cheeseburger we ordered ended up being a hamburger. And was cold. At this point with everything combined im upset. So I call back again.

I am now told they can send the driver with a new cheeseburger in exchange by now i have wasted my money, charged more then I should have been and insulted by the response that I can "exchange" the one that was delivered to me.

When i tell her by now I have no appetite and to please write my name and phone number down for a replacement at another time. Her response was I can credit you for cheese on your next hamburger.

Really?! Are you joking?! All of that and all you can offer is a .60 cent credit are you freakin...

I have been a customer of nanas for year! Never had a problem till today. I ordered deliver . When I received my order the lids on the drinks had fallen off , so no drinks. Ok I could get over that but when opening the food bag the beefs opened and leaked all over the food we purchased making everything inedible.So I called and was put on hold . Had to hang up and call back. As I’m talking to the girl who answered all she could do was send me new food, I said no thank you could I please get a refund. As she is talking I can here people in the back yelling. I said hun I’m getting really upset and I know it’s not your fault. I said none of the food can be eaten and I paid a lot for this order. She said I’m sorry my hands are tide this is all my manager said I can do. I said can I please talk to him. As he gets on I was trying to tell him what was wrong and before I can get anything out he’s screaming at me I said excuse me why are you yelling at me. He says because you yelled at me. I said how can I you won’t even let me talk. He says fine I am making it that we will never ever serve you again. Called me profanity names and said go do a yell review. So here I am. If they treat there customers like that after so many year they don’t need...
