I’ve been going to Whippany diner for three months. Now that doesn’t seem like a long theme to most but here’s the story.
I’m here in NJ looking for a place to buy. I have a place in Cambridge MD, Palm Springs CA and I live most of the time in Cornwall England. In fact, I came here from England on Sept 10th.
Every morning I go to Whippany Diner for breakfast. I sit in the same booth in the back and I’m waited on by Estelle. As a diabetic I order pretty much the same thing.... it usually involves eggs.
I really love the place, the food and have made friends with many of the locals.
But here’s the problem.
Last night, Thursday, December 3rd, I decided to go there and have dinner.... Stuffed Flounder with Crabmeat. It Really is a great dish.... go there and try it.
Hit there at about 5:30pm. There’s two booths taken, two people at the bar and two people sitting at a table on the right as soon as you walk in. That’s it!!!
Wait staff all standing around. I believe the owners son, the cook, and their daughter, running the cash register/ hostess were there.
I was asked if it was just me dinning and said yes and said I will sit in the back.... were I always sit. I sat there and was told I needed to move to a table for one. I said, I prefer to sit here and said I always sit here.
She left came back and said I need to move to a table for one as “We need to keep social distancing with the tables”. I said there are 7 tables here, there is No One back here and you want me to move to the table right next to this table??? I then said no, I’m happy where I’m at. She then said, “I was told you need to move.”
Again there was No One in the Diner other than what I mentioned and they were not in the area.
I got up and LEFT.
You don’t want my budiness..... No Worries. There are plenty of places to eat without being bullied to sit at a Two-Top when the customer wants to sit in a booth.
Nobody was there ... and now in a Climate like we are all in, they have just lost an income.
There’s more I could say, but you...
Read moreAfter a long night of drinking heavily, my typical next day recovery consists of waking up on the floor, contemplating my existence, and groggily driving over to a diner. Now mind you, when I eat at a diner I'm not expecting exceptional food or service - I take this into account. All I want is a hot cup of coffee that doesn't taste like burnt soil, a decent meal that doesn't taste like Play-Doh, and a server that understands that when I finish a coffee I'll probably like another one. The service was very poor - the server kept on making excuses as to why we were missing water, no refills on coffee, and the excruciating long wait. The quality of food was horrible. The meat tasted like it was sitting on the counter and then reheated - honestly the worst gyro I have ever tasted. I've tried roadkill once - no I didn't personally pick up a carcass off the side of the road - but honestly it was 1000X better than this heap of rubbish. My meal was a buffalo chicken wrap. It consisted of dry chicken and putrid coleslaw. Did they kill a chicken and then allow it to bake in the blistering sun for a week. Who knows. Meager portions - there was a small handful of fries on my plate and the buffalo wrap was the size of my iPhone 6. Honestly there was a moment when I wondered if my phone would taste better than this inedible meal. And the funniest thing was that they offered seafood on the menu!? Now imagine that. I will never be going back to this diner and will probably check...
