First time visiting Big Mikes Crab House and Grill with my wife and kids and I have to say even before the rest of the review I was already kind of partial to their cool name. When we first arrived inside the restaurant we were asked by the waitress if we would like to sit inside or out and we chose to sit outside since it was a nice day. Once at our table our waitress took our drink order and it was quick to come. Also I must mention that our drinks were cold and full of ice which you wouldn't think would be a big deal but when you are used to going to restaurants where they treat ice like it is some kind of precious commodity its nice for a change. It was also nice that there were other choices on the menu especially since my son is not fond of most kind of seafoods. We ordered the loaded hush puppies for our appetizer and they were covered in crab meat and awesome. The crab cakes, scallops and steamed shrimp that my wife, daughter and I had were great and cooked just right. My son and I had the "broasted" chicken as well which was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and tasted superb. The waitress was great, she was polite and quick. I only wish I could remember her name because whenever I have good service I like to include the wait staff's name in the review to give credit where it is due. Last but not least I visited the inside of the restaurant before leaving just to give some props to the guys cooking the food also which was well received by them both. Thanks Big Mike's it's hard to find good seafood when your not near the shore but you satisfied the craving. We will be back.

I was in Gettysburg and had a sudden craving for blue crab. Didn’t want to cross over into to Maryland so I found this place and the reviews looked good. It was only 20 minutes from the battlefield so I said, why not? I’m so glad I stopped by because the crab was some of the best I’ve had anywhere. They only had small but these small crabs were FAT and SO SWEET. They apparently don’t use Old Bay seasoning and use something called Jay O which to be honest tastes a lot like Old Bay, but the combination of the melted butter dipping sauce with the vinegar really brought the crab flavor out. Truly some of the sweetest and creamiest crab I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating. Took some crab cakes back to the hotel for the next day and they were awesome eaten cold, so I can only imagine that they would be even better warm. Key Lime pie for dessert was also top notch. When I rhetorically asked where the crabs were from they were honest about them being from Louisiana (those in the know understand that this time of year all the blue crab comes from Louisiana), which I greatly appreciated. The place is BYOB and the ambiance outside was cozy with the lighting and space heater. They also have indoor seating. This place is a gem and definitely worth the trip for the crabs alone. Eating such delicious crab got me in such a good mood that I even gave a crab to a little boy who was drooling while watching me eat and practically begged me for one.

Stopped in on a Saturday since I had time to kill. Needed to be just a few minutes away at 2pm, arrived at exactly 12pm. We waited at the sign that clearly said to "Wait to be seated" for quite a few minutes until finally someone came over and told us to sit wherever we wanted. Menus were on the tables. We waited quite a while for someone to finally come over and tell us the waitress would be right with us. This turned into yet another long wait. All the while, we are noticing one person after another walk in, get food, and leave. Finally the waitress arrived and I placed the food and drink order together. I got the Fish and fries off the "specials" board for $14, and the wife got the Crab Cake sandwich for $19. Again, we wait and wait while customers that came in and sat after us are served finish and leave. Finally at 1:45 our food shows up. My fried fish is beyond "well done" and borderline burnt. The wife's Crabcake that only included a tiny serving of Cole slaw was more like Crab Imperial. It clearly cooked on the flat top. The bottom was a burned crust that was inedible, and then it was placed under a broiler to heat the top so that the middle was cold and uncooked. No time to complain, and once again, no waitresses to be found. I had to go ask the cashier for my check and a to go box. Clearly, they were more worried about their local walk-in "Steamed Crab" and call in carry out orders. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Won't be back. I'm sure there are much better restaurants in the area.

I spent $165 this evening at Big Mikes. I was extremely disappointed at what my money bought me. I got (2) crab pretzels, the snow crab legs you see in the picture, a 3 piece white chicken platter, and a steamer bucket (crabs, clams, mussels, shrimp). While I knew what I was buying (according to the menu), I just have to say…if you are going to provide such skimpy portion size entrees, you should at least do better on the size of your sides. The steamer bucket was cooked nicely, but I had 3 closed mussels and 4 closed clams. It was a nice variety, but not enough to satisfy a grown man’s hunger. The crab pretzels were ok (salty), and so was the chicken. Overall, the food wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad either. I wish for that kind of money, it would seem a little more worth spending.

Delicious seafood away from hours away from the sea. This local independent restaurant is a hidden gem in Hanover Pa. Do yourself a favor and stop if you are in town. Make sure you hit them up during off peek hours or you will be waiting for a table. But its well worth it. Very friendly staff at this family owned and run business. Attentive wait staff and great food makes for a winning combo. I had the steamed muscles and the special of loaded hush puppies. I added some hot sauce and old bay to my butter. Wow. Their crab chili is amazing. I highly recommend making this a regular outing if you are a local.
