Let me start with the TLDR: Yes, come here for the quality/good food and the equally good prices.
Recently I had a crab cake sandwich here which really solidified this place as a place to frequent with my family. As a Marylander Im quite picky about my crab cakes especially when Im out of state so for such a cheap price and the fact that it was one of the better crab cakes I had while at a restaurant is a huge plus for me. I don’t live in Hanover but I come to Hanover often for family and because of that we like to have many different restaurant options. I like that they have a relatively good sized parking lot although I wish there were more disability parking spaces. The doors aren’t accessible so if you or someone you’re with uses a walker or wheelchair then you will need to hold the door open by hand or get waitstaff to help. Accessibility usually isn’t common in Pennsylvanian establishments so this is unsurprising. You can seat yourself here and there is the main room which is relatively small and a larger dining area if you cant find seating in the main room. I will say service can be slow both getting your order and getting the food but I think they have a relatively small number of staff so I can understand it. The last time I went it was 95 degrees out and they dont have A/C but they do have fans which is something at least but it wasnt cold for those who prefer their dining experience like that. Overall this place is worth the drive over and the food is...
Read moreThis restaurant has to be one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had in my entire life. My wife and I decided to give this place a try after hearing how fairly priced the food was from her mother. Granted the portions were large and will certainly fill you up, but you most definitely get what you pay for. I ordered the double cheeseburger on a pretzel roll. The burger had to have had zero seasoning on it and was extremely dry , bun was soggy, and the fries weren’t seasoned at all and had zero flavor. My wife ordered the chicken strips with mashed potatoes. I did try some of her chicken and though they were breaded nicely and cooked well, again zero seasoning and they literally tasted like water. A little salt and pepper would go a long way. I will say that the cheesecake for dessert was the best part of our meal but I’m willing to bet they don’t make them themselves and the waitress which her name escapes me was super sweet and did her job very well. The atmosphere and service was acceptable my wife really liked the at home feel of the place, but the food all around just left way too much to be desired for. Bland, tasteless, just seemed like it was made in a hurry. Again portions were large and the prices are pretty reasonable especially in this day and age, but the food itself was a very huge letdown. We won’t be coming back here...
Read moreLove the Railside restaurant and am so glad they are back! We routinely eat either one or more meals in the evening (early in the afternoon is best) to avoid the crowds and any waiting) and occasionally a great breakfast. The waitresses are very nice and really do their best to keep our drinks filled and ask if there is anything else we need while dining. Keep in mind this is a family friendly restaurant. So, do not expect trendy faire or any heavy spices. I'm a big fan of sensible and simple dishes. The house speciality is a concoction called the Jill's Salad. It is my favorite. It is a very large salad consisting of iceberg lettuce, tomato, real bacon, grilled chicken, cheddar cheese and topped with a cooked egg dressing which is out of this world delicious! Also, did I mention it could easily feed two. Also, Friday night and most of Saturday evening is my favorite, a haddock dinner. The Haddock is lightly battered. Each night there are specials which are all delicious. The owner appreciates the customers and is usually always there working, either helping the waitresses or attending to running...
