The only way to describe this place is like the show "Cheers." I'm not a local but the ladies working said hello to almost everybody else by their first name. Hometown cozy vibes for sure. They worked like a well-oiled machine too. I ordered a sesame bagel with scallion cream cheese, toasted (photo) and it was perfect. Crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle, with a huge pile of cream cheese. I also got their "Traverse City Mocha" which is next-level delicious. I think I taste cinnamon?? I don't think it's cherry but I could be wrong. Not getting a strong fruit taste BUT it tastes like delicious chocolatey fall. If I'm ever back in the area I'll definitely stop by again. EDIT: definitely cherry flavor in the coffee! As the mocha cooled it tasted more and more like a chocolate covered cherry. Goes to show how natural the cherry flavor was, not like cough medicine. Highly recommend!

I have meant to do a review for Johan’s for a long time and was able to be back in the area to get the absolutely best doughnuts and what our daughters named the cinnamon brick anywhere! I have been a bit of a doughnut aficionado for as long as I can remember and everywhere I have traveled around the world I will find what people say are the best doughnuts, but every time I compare those to Johan’s and they just don’t stack up! The chocolate icing they use is bar none to any and the glaze options are fantastic. I can not do a review without mentioning that Cathy/Kathy that has been there over the past 20 years that we have been coming there is just a bright light and wonderful morning hello. I just wish I could move a store and Cathy to our home town near Grand Rapids, MI😊😋

Sunday morning we open the door to see 25 people in a line waiting to order. We reluctantly get in line only to see how slow it is going. It starts to move a little and we anticipate the coffee and breakfast donut. This effort results in a unexpected pleasant culinary experience. We get the Columbian, one of five coffee flavors. We order apple fritters out of a case with some of the best looking bakery goods that we have seen in some time. We soon realize that this place is worth standing in a line twice as long as we had experienced. The staff works efficiently, keeping the line moving. We look for forward to our next visit, and strongly recommend this place as a place to go out of your way to experience.
