If you guys follow me, you know, I do not get rave reviews very often. However, this is one of those rare times. This restaurant was a complete unexpected surprise in downtown Harlingen. I had a great experience. First of all you need to know I’m a huge supporter of anything in downtown. I’m all about revitalization. But a lot of times locations in these areas tend to miss the mark. I didn’t expect a lot from this place and I got way more than I could’ve hoped. First of all the interior decor is super colorful and welcoming. It has a great Mexican vibe that makes you feel like you are in a small village restaurant. The wait staff was completely polite and courteous. They brought my food out promptly and did not let me wait for anything. I got the breakfast special which was eggs and French toast with bacon. The whole plate was delicious. The French toast was sweet and moist. The bacon was thick and just the right amount of crispy and the eggs were possibly the best eggs I’ve ever had. I didn’t know eggs could really be that different until I had these. They were velvety smooth and so delicious. I’m assuming they were farm fresh eggs and the way they prepared them sunny side up was just incredible. Other than the decor, needing a little bit of touchup due to cracking in the plaster. I absolutely love this place. And to be honest, the cracking made it almost seem more authentic. I would highly recommend this place for breakfast. I have not been for lunch or dinner, but rest assured I will be there. Thank you to the entire staff for the great experience. Also, they have a patio and back which is a rare option...
Read moreDon Gollito Restaurant is a hidden gem that deserves recognition for their excellent customer service and their Mexican food taste is off the charts. I always have a great experience when I dine in their beautiful quaint establishment. Their prices are very reasonable, and they could be higher because their just that GOOD. Today I had their Breakfast Special plate: simple eggs, beans, potatoes, flour tortilla and a coffee. I don't know how they can make these simple common dishes taste so good. Patrons that frequent there express their satisfaction with a bell located by the door as you leave and ring it (if they are happy with their experience). What a great way to interact and get not only verbal feedback, but also a great tradition in the making. Their location is hard to find, but if you are reading this, you can now ask Google Maps to take you there. I have so much to write about this place, but I want to let the photos I add to speak for themselves. Support your local community businesses. Don't take my word for it, come experience or yourself. It is worth the your valuable time with you and your family/friends.
Just to add: I have enjoyed eating at this establishment at lunch. And I highly recommend them. Their enchiladas...
Read moreGotta give it to em today. Food was excellent, no wait time to be seated, server was immediately attentive. Mil order two tacos of Papa a la mexicana, I ordered the special, Gollito Omelette with a side of avocado slices. Wife ordered the beef empanada place. Everything was delicious. My suegras tacos were very well filled and tasty. The omelette was a blend of veggies with bacon, sausage, ham & cheese and a side of beans and coffee. Absolutely fantastic. Took a bite of the empanadas, I'm ordering that next time. Perfectly seasoned beef, stuffed in fresh corn dough and deep fried to perfection ( well that's my theory anyway). Good visit great food.6-2-2023 visit for lunch. Ok visit. Service was a little slow. Server brought our meals but never returned to refill our drinks. Took our order, brought the food and disappeared. I'm not really upset about it but it's not typical of the last few visits we've had. Wasn't a horrible visit but I was thirsty and server wasn't around. Wife ordered the empanadas of desabrada. They came out great. They're really consistent with that plate. I had the Mexican plate. It was well served and tasted very good. One exception was the sauce on the enchiladas. I feel they over did it with the...
