I was quite surprised to find this gem nestled in the Rio Grande Valley area. Now mind you, I lived in South Korea for about 3.5 years. I lived in Waegwon just south of Gumi-si and north of Daegu. I lived the cuisine there. I came back in 2013 and Asian food has not been the same for me in America. I happened to find some pretty decent Korean places in Dallas and none here in the RGV area. Until now. The atmosphere was reminiscent of VIP's, a Korean restaurant in Korea. We chose to sit at a booth, we didn't feel like having the hibachi experience that day. I knew exactly what I wanted either Dak Galbi or Bulgobi. I ordered some Yakimandu of course, which is a Korean dumpling. I was excited to see that they brought the complimentary side of Kimchi. It's like getting complimentary chips at a Mexican restaurant. My wife ordered some kind of sushi. It did not take long for our food to come out upon ordering. I did also order Soju. I do have to note I felt it was a little pricier than expected. Other than that the food prices were pretty fair. During our time there the owner (the wife) did come out and ask how our visit was. We loved it! I then asked if she was from South Korea, as I have seen other times Korean restaurants being owned by Chinese. She said she was from Seoul. (Which many Korean Americans are.) We got into visiting for awhile, then offered us complimentary green tea ice cream...which I have not been able to find anywhere. My wife had never heard of it and loved it. Whenever we are back in Harlingen, we will be...
Read moreThe food was good for the most part, but there was a whole piece of trash in my husbands food. Cooked with the chicken and vegetables. When we kindly told the staff they were like “ oh sorry it’s from the avocados “ neither of our plates had avocado. Then they just brushed it off. We weren’t expecting the meal comped but at least a discount considering there was trash in my husband’s food. The owner took the trash from us so I can’t very well take a picture.
It’s overpriced for the food you get and the overall cleanliness of the restaurant aside from TRASH IN THE FOOD is not clean. The table was sticky and the chairs were a death trap even for a person that’s lightweight.
As we were leaving I spoke to the owner and this lady had the audacity to say “it happens all the time but it’s ok” not that I was speaking loud but she started to whisper and kind of shoo me off in attempt for the customers next to us not to here. I let her know I was going to writing a review to which she replied “oh no that’s not necessary I’ll give you a discount if you don’t.” We had already paid, and she was like” I’ll give you 10% for next time” I let her know there would NOT be a next time to which she said “that’s ok too.” I let her know this was a lack in service and that I was very upset to have this lack of response. We went back and forth over whether or not it was trash and if I should leave a review then the waitress jumped into the conversation. At which point I let her know I would leave a review and walked out of...
Read moreToday was an experience I’ve never had happen to me. At least I didn’t see it unfolding right in front of my eyes. We go there on average once a week. Ok here goes….. I ordered the Habachi Steak and the family ordered sushi and n some appetizers. All the food came out except mine. My husband patiently waited. Well out of the corner of my eye I could see the waitress pacing. Finally the cook comes out, grabs a “to go” tray and takes it to the back. Two seconds later here comes the waitress with my meal!!! The steak(which is very expensive) was cold, the veggies..cold. The rice temperature was somewhere in between. The cook put the tray of food on a plate and it was served to me!!! YUCK YUCK YUCK. I could have gotten sick. They gave my plate of food to another customer then gave me someone’s “take out.” Seriously. I asked the waitress why my steak was cold and she couldn’t lie, she told me what happened. I asked for my money back and they credited my meal only. Not the other stuff my kids and husband ordered. The owner wanted me to take the leftover leftovers home!!! Haha no thank you. Never ever again are we going to eat there! GROSS, if you eat there you are taking a chance at what shenanigans might happen. I’m still processing what happened. I was still classy and left the girl a good tip for being honest even though she could have been honest before this all happened. Wow. Wow. And not the good...
