I typically wouldn't do this, but I'm not a fan of throwing money away or being given the runaround. I went into Mother's Subs (2nd Street location) around lunchtime on Friday, November 18. I walked through the door with a friend and it was absolutely packed. I turned around, drove back home and ordered over the phone. I returned to get my 2 cheesesteaks (1 with provolone and fried onions, one with swiss and fried onions), paid $18.02 and returned home. I unwrapped my cheesesteak and took ONE bite. The completely raw onions and unmelted cheese were quite disgusting and I spat them out. I pulled apart the cheesesteak, took pictures and as you can see from the picture everything was wrong with it. Even stranger, there were raw onions on one half of the cheesesteak and cooked onions on the other half. This was the same for BOTH cheesesteaks. I immediately called back (with that nasty taste in my mouth) as I did not want to return and wait in line to consequently embarrass them. I spoke with a guy whose name I did not get and he told me that I could bring them back. I informed him that I did not want to come back and get them today. He told me that he would write my name down and that I could come and get them when I had time. I called back on Monday and to no surprise the lady who answered the phone "had no idea" who I was. So I explained to her IN DEPTH what took place and she told me that I could come in and get the 2 cheesesteaks Monday or Tuesday. She even joked and said that if it were her she would wait until today, Tuesday because of how blustery it was yesterday, Monday. I agreed. So I call back today and speak to the same and only lady there and she tells me, with attitude, that the original guy I spoke with didn't have the authority to tell me that I would get the two subs replaced, as he was "just a submaker" and that I should've returned on Friday. She stated that the owner said I could "come get a half sub but that would be about it". I've been going to them since they opened on 2nd Street. Well...
Read moreI hate leaving bad reviews and I've thought about it two days before doing so.
I was so looking forward to this sandwich. Been craving it for a few days. Walked in Saturday afternoon and ordered my sandwich. I told the man three times no onions. I know I said twice that onions make me sick. I pay and go sit down. I know from past experience that getting food isn't fast but that happened next really took the cake. I had been waiting for about ten minutes when a guy came in and ordered a sub. In less than 10 minutes the guy had his sub and was walking out. Now I'm going on 20 minutes of waiting for my sub. The guy I ordered my sub from brings it out covered in onions. I tell him I can't eat onions they make me sick (3rd time telling him they make me sick). I'll make it right he says and walks away. 5-6 minutes later he's back with tomatoes and spices on top. I could still smell the onions but I was going to try and eat it until...as I was about to take my first bite I saw some onions pushed down beside the meat.
Untouched I took the sandwich back to the counter and explained that I can't eat onions and I would like my money back. The guy who "made it right" basically threw my money back at me.
I will never go back. Mistakes happen but when you're told 5 times (from start to finish) no onions and onions make me sick and you still put them on my sandwich....then when it's brought to your attention you try to cover up to the onions instead of making a new sandwich. Obviously the owner doesn't care if he loses business. Beware of what you don't want on your sandwich or go in the evening when the younger employees are there...
Read moreI've been frequenting this place far often than I should (bread = carbs no matter who makes the sub/hoagie). But their subs are just that good.
There seemed to be some concern over an employee not following COVID standards. This is valuable information, however, I've not seen anything concerning ever when visiting, so perhaps it was a once and done?
I'm happy to frequent this Mother's location. Maybe one day I'll deviate but I wouldn't put money on it.
The subs are worth the stop off at the Harrisburg East turnpike exit (283 exchange) and have room to allow big trucks (rigs) to park and fuel up. Considering trying them once.
So, it seems the prices went up a little bit from last year (to be expected considering), though I'm convinced that the amount of meat has been reduced as well. I spoke to the owner, he made it himself assuring me the meat would be properly weighed. Welp, I suppose I might have been getting "hooked up" from an employee who is no longer with the company. Because, when he (the ex-employee) made them, it had a proper amount of meat to sub roll ratio. Now, you may as well be Subway! The ONLY difference is that you are Mom/Pop which I usually prefer to support AND the roll is still the best. However, now the amount of meat don't justify the amount of carbs. Sorry guys. If you no longer see the talkative guy that would order the Half Turkey, with American, LTO, Mayo and Oregano, you'll know why. :( Reply here when you add a little more meat (like double). Yes, I know I can pay for "extra meat", but then it just seems as though I'm getting done...
