Overall the experience was good. This is a small, family owned and operated restaurant. I went with my young child and we ordered edamame and two of the specialty sushi rolls. Since the rolls we ordered were shrimp tempura inside, I can’t speak to the quality of the raw fish but they tasted good and were both drowning in eel sauce and that spicy mayo sauce. The price was decent (less than $30 for our meal) The reasons I gave the restaurant only three stars were because I found there was a lack of a few basic services: 1) when we walked in no one greeted us and I didn’t know if we were to seat ourselves or wait to be seated,, 2) when the edamame arrived, we did not also get a spare plate or bowl to put the shells in. We also did not receive extra plates for sharing the sushi rolls when they arrived, and 3) the rolls were served on separate platters but we only received ginger & wasabi with one of the rolls. Again, minor infractions, but they had an impact on my overall opinion of the place. I will probably end up going back, though, because it’s the only sushi place I know of within 20 minutes of my house. (Except for the stuff Kroger...
Read moreLet me start off by saying last time I ate there I ended up getting sick and had to be hospitalized and was forced to be off of work because if it. Second of all, they leave their front and back doors open and the place is crawling with bugs and gnats on the food and leave their fish out in room temperature all day. Third of all, don’t park there if you need to go into any of the other stores next to it. They will come out screaming at you not to park there and that it’s for customers which is understandable but there is no sign stating that. This has happened to 4 different employees that work in the stores nearby. Us employees have to park there at certain times due to safety reasons. They are extremely rude people and I no longer do business with them and neither does our employees at our store. Not to mention the bugs we get in our store from them. They are disgusting and rude people. I wouldn’t recommend...
Read moreThere were mostly positive reviews on Yelp, but I have to say:
Meh.
Maybe it's because it's the only Japanese place in this small town, but this place is just not good by any standard.
The word of the day is "filler". Everything seems to have filler. Order a sushi roll? It's mostly rice and cucumber, hardly any fish, plus they fall all apart because they're not rolled well. Order a teriyaki plate? It's mostly rice, onions, and zucchini. The "yum yum" sauce seems like it's just watered down mayonnaise. The gyoza tasted like old fryer oil.
Kind of a bummer. The people who run the place are nice, but I'd just assume eat at Penn Station next door rather than this "Meh" version...
