I went into Sunberry after a hard day to have a few drinks and relax after a hard week of work and first week of classes. I had a few drinks there (I remember all the drinks I had and in the order I had them), at the beginning of being there, a woman comes in after me (it was around 3:14 PM). The woman who came in after me asked the front end manager, Jane ( I believe her name is) about their happy hour and the manger tells her it doesnāt start til 4, but then goes on to say she would honor the happy hour prices for her. When she came back in from seating the woman outside, I mentioned the happy hour to her and she simply restated it doesnāt start til 4. I just found it weird because if you are going to offer one person an early happy hour, either do it discreetly enough where no one hears or donāt do it at all. At 4 I ended up leaving with someone that I had met while there and we went to another location to have drinks (I can also remember all the drinks I had at this second location). Then me and the person and another person went back to Sunberry. After getting there and mingling (from my chair at the bar, and just being my social bubbly self) I decided to eat something, and ordered the tonkatsu ramen. 1/2 way through eating my food the person I was with walks up to me with my check and tells me that I am being cut off. I was confused to why, and proceeded to try and order a drink(simply to test not my luck but get the convo started on why) I was refused. I simply paid my bill and proceeded to gather my things. Before leaving I confronted Jane (the same front end manager), she told me she made the decision to cut me off, I asked her why, and she told me because I had 3 drinks within an hour. Keep in mind I had not been at the location for the second time for any more than an hour and had not had a single drink the whole time I was there the second time, just food. My conclusion is that Jane was being discriminatory, which I hate because itās a restaurant and I am paying my hard earned money to eat there. My biggest issue being that I did not fall, was not being disrespectful to fellow patrons or even doing much of any real talking to anyone once I got my food. And Jane, the person cutting me off didnāt even converse with me in anyway to get a feel on what level I was at. I have been to crazier and fancier places and have been DRUNK, and never in my 9 years of drinking in bars and restaurants have I ever been cut off. I will never go to Sunberry to āunwindā after a long week again. Thank you Jane (if thatās your name, you know who you are) for ruining my kid free Friday night! And get bandaids for your staff itās against Health code regulations to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWas there with some friends. We thought the kitchen closed at 9 and we got there no later than 8:35 and were told the kitchen staff was closing and wanted to leave. We then were asked to pay in the middle of our meal because they had to close all food orders yet they have a late night menu and were still bringing out food.
Nice scenery and layout. Makes it feel a bit relaxed. I could have just went at the wrong time but i did not enjoy the atmosphere at all.
People probably being over served and one lady in a silver latex outfit was being outright rude to many people and saying the most obscure things to my friend who was sitting next to me. About an hour and a half later this lady was escorted to a corner, not kicked out for doing an obscene motion to a microphone and then saying the karaoke host was rude to her.
Bar closed early for some reason while a lot of people were wanting to sing still but obviously a lot of them were drunk or too drunk. Portion control is needed or just cut people off once you notice they are drunk.
In terms of food, the dumplings were pretty good and cooked well and crunchy just the pork was mush? It wasn't solid pork, more like mix of stuff. The stir fry tasted well but once i ate most of it i could see grease and oil on the bottom and my stomach was hurting a bit after i finished it. I could not drink most of my sake due to my stomach. This sake was the most interesting sake i had and tasted good too. Our table was done and was not cleared until almost closing time. I did not see a bar-back there.
I might go again but earlier to get a better atmosphere. Was not impressed with the food or atmosphere on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe food flavor was good, although way too spicy for my preference and the server (the one time we saw her) said that the spice level canāt be made less spicy, which seems strange if itās made fresh to order. Vegetables were cut up so small in the stir fry that it was hard to pick them up and makes me think theyāre not fresh. But the service was so incredibly bad that we will probably not go back. We were there on a Wednesday night and we were the only indoor table, other than the 2-3 people at the bar, and one person sitting outside working at a table. The bartender eventually took our orderā¦but after our food arrived, we never saw anyone again. No one checked on us again or asked if we wanted another drink, we needed a napkin but never got it, had to ask at the bar for our check and a container to take home the food that Iām not going to eat because it was too spicy. The worst part is that we said something to someone who might be the owner on the way out and he was so smug and unconcerned that we were unhappy that it sealed the decision to never go back. I will not recommend this again - which is sad because we liked it before when the daughter of the owner was our server. Not the same quality as our previous visit and absolutely not the same atmosphere and...
