Let me say upfront that the hotel staff were all phenomenal. Shout out to Emily - Operations Manager, Kathryn - Front Desk Supervisor?, & Nora - who was very helpful with breakfast (she volunteered to make waffles if you struggled with the machine). Thank you to so many others but I didn't get all names.
Now let's discuss the rooms. My husband & I arrived on a Thursday. Our first room had a terrible odor & stains on the furniture. When I brought it to Katheryn's attention, she switched us immediately.
We were constantly awoken by the old a/c. It would start up & then turn off. Then loudly turn off again. We brought it to Emily's attention & she explained it's fragility being an old system. She compensated us with extra points on our Marriott Bonvoy Rewards account. Emily, thank you again. But Marriot needs to please get that fixed because my husband & I had throbbing headaches by our 2nd night. So we slept with it turned off on the 3rd night - mind you, we were in the middle of a heat wave.
Then there was an outage of all TVs on Saturday morning. During the Olympics. And after being awoken super early due to the a/c as mentioned above. So we were up before breakfast with no TV. My husband inquiried at the front desk & they told him that they had no clue what the issue was. And that's it. That was the response. So after an hour or so - I went & asked for an update myself. To which I was told an engineer had been called to check on it. TVs were up within the next hour or so but there was no update or apologies about it. I won't hold that against them - it was just an added layer of frustration after dealing with all else.
In sum, I never want to visit this hotel again. Of all the Marriotts we have been to, this location was not up to par in comparison. While the staff did what they could within their abilities, we paid far too much per night for what we experienced.
PS: there is no bar/restaurant service or pool. But lack of those amenities are not what subtracted from...
Read moreI have stayed in this hotel on several occasions and there always seems to be a problem.
Let me elaborate:
I have had issues with bills not being correct.
I have had guests sleep on pull out couches without any blanket, pillow or sheets because the hotel claims they did not have provisions. This is despite the fact that I booked the room for 4 people.
On my most recent stay, I specifically asked for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite when I made my reservation. I did not get what I booked and my entire family was uncomfortable as a result. No one got any sleep. When I asked the hotel to correct the matter, the woman (Shev) at the front desk said if I did not have the name of the Marriott employee that booked the reservation, she would not be able to do anything. Now, I ask, of all people, who would have this required informaiton? Me or the Marriott front desk?
In addition to the two room suite that I never got, I specifically asked for an additional room for an 80 female relative that would be traveling with us. I requested that this be nearby. This hotel is pretty spread out and has some pretty shady looking guests. The hotel responded by giving us rooms on floors 5 6 and 3. Now as far as proximity goes, they failed again.
Not only did they mess up on all of my requests, they mocked me when I asked for a correction. Shev at the front desk is rude. I will be surprised if she is there in 30 days.
Now for those of you that are unfamiliar with the area. This hotel is in East Hartford. It is not an area known for friendly neighborhoods. It’s pretty scary outside the hotel. The parking lot clearly warns – “Lock it Or Loose it”. The woman in the room across from ours looked like a prostitute.
Lesson learned – Not all Marriot properties are the same. Read the reviews before booking and remember to get the name of the person taking your reservation. Apparently, according to Shev at the front desk, you will need this if there...
Read moreI had a decent stay at this property while traveling for work. My 1-bedroom bi-level loft king room was spacious and comfortable for my 13 night stay. ||Pros:|- I found the staff to be incredibly friendly and helpful. Every interaction I had with a staff member was great, especially when my key card stopped working. They were so quick to help, and I felt like a valued guest. They really made my stay!!|- The cookies at the front desk every day are dangerously good.|- I liked how spacious my room was. The loft helped create a separation from my living and sleeping areas, which made for a good night's rest every night. |- The location is super convenient and very close to some of downtown Hartford's best attractions, like Bushnell Park and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum. ||Cons:|- The rooms could use some updating. The decor is a little dated and dour. I found the couch in my room to be pretty uncomfortable, so I spent most of my relaxing time in the armchair. The kitchen is well-equipped, but the cabinets are a little dingy and damaged.|- My room badly needed a deep clean. I found what looked like splattered coca cola all over one of my windows, and there were several large stains in various places along the walls. I ended up wiping down some of the surfaces with a wet wipe so I could feel more comfortable. ||I would recommend this hotel for an extended stay, especially because of the...
