TheaterWorks Hartford — Attraction in Hartford

Amazing venue for plays - very intimate setting- no "bad seats". All of the staff is quite personable and friendly. Theater has convenient location with plenty of parking around theater, as well being close to many fine downtown Hartford restaurants. One caveat - is that you have to walk down a fairly long set of stairs to get to the theater itself.

Most recent play offered - Midsummer - was terrific- very creative and clever- combining music, dialogue, with a great story line- reality including the pathos and humor of reality. The two actors in the play, Rebecca Hart, M.Scott McLean, under direction of Tracy Brigden, were very engaging -in tune with their characters as well as the audience, making the play more of a personal storytelling.The play was 97 minutes long which seems like a long time for only two actors considering the dancing, music, dialogue changes of characters held me enthralled by their skill. Normally I would give Theater Works 5 ⭐️ cuz I’ve been going for a min but last nights performance (6/11/25)was WAYY 2 LONG..2.5 hrs & it dragged. We saw YOUR NAME MEANS DREAM….The performers were excellent & they weren’t the issue..it was whomever wrote the play & it could’ve been shaved to 1:45 hrs…so going forward, me & my family are still going but we’re giving it an Hour Tops to either stay or go. Now I do understand that Theater Works plays run 2-2.5 but when the Message is received & you know the outcome it dsnt need to drag cuz that’s when your audience gets bored. First time visitor. We had our club meeting with our dinner catered by Salute in Hartford. Had our meeting on the 3rd floor. Great space!!!!! After our meeting we went to see "Lizzie" playing. Totally rocked! No bad seat. Will call for tickets EZ. Love the 200 seat max theater. The bar was great - plenty of bartenders and cashiers. Ordered the large mixed drink and it was large.
