HB Cafe — Restaurant in Hartland

My most recent visit was Nov. 7th, and after a few years of enjoying many breakfasts here with family and friends, it will be my last. Since there has been a change of owner/manager recently, there is a noticeable difference in both food quality and cleanliness of this cafe. On my last visit, the restaurant was uncomfortably cold. Upon asking the server if the heat could be adjusted to make it more comfortable, I was told that they never touch the thermostat because the people in the kitchen would be way too hot. Well, don't think of the patron's freezing, or the food becoming cold two minutes after arriving at the table. I'm sorry, but I don't enjoy eating with my winter coat on. Put a fan in the kitchen, or open a window or possibly a nearby door. There were crumbs and litter on the floor that looked like it hadn't been vacuumed for days. Our food arrived and my Hollandaise sauce was so thick, I could have stood a fork up in it, and the portions were noticeably smaller. The worst part was being approached by a swarthy looking man in a suit, that spent a considerable amount of time trying to sell me a makeup and a men's grooming kit, while two waitresses peered around the corner of the kitchen watching. What decent establishment would allow solicitors in their business to bother the patrons, making them feel very uncomfortable? Was this person trying to access my credit card information if I made a purchase? So many disturbing things were running through my head in this day and age of scam artists everywhere you look. I feel it necessary to alert the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department to be on the lookout for this man entering businesses with this selling practice in the area. Quality has suffered for some time Wait times can be long, even when not busy Rude Kitchen Staff / Cook Wait staff do well and are often attentive.

I have been coming to the cafe for many years (almost 10) and quality has been slipping ever since the owner hasn’t been cooking as much. Good old days when Lauren was still around before covid, this place was something special. The cook now is incredibly rude, his voice carries across the restaurant. I have had an occasion where food was taking incredibly long, owners sister went to check on things for us as she was concerned also, the cook yells ‘don’t be coming back here, telling me what to do or how to do things’. today when the plate was extra greasy / dripping with butter the owner goes back to provide feedback to the cook, he again loudly exclaims ‘we always cook with butter, must be their first time eating here..’. I presume the cook is family, as most are who work there which is nice, but if I had a cook, family or not, carry themselves the way he does, and talk the way he does not only to the owner but to wait staff and about customers so the whole restaurant can hear, I would have walked him out immediately.

I have reviewed this place twice before and was dumb enough to go back I reviewed it about 8 months ago and again probably a little over a year ago. All my complaints about slow service terrible coffee refills time waiting when there's rarely anybody in the place is kind of ridiculous. The last time last week that I was here I ordered after a 20-minute wait with not many people in there and I ordered two over medium eggs one was completely hard in theyolk my entire time and there was about 45 minutes I had one coffee refill which is typical for this place they had two waitresses which is crazy because nobody came over and on top of the bad eggs the toast was ice cold when it got to me and not very well toasted it was so light it might have been bread the only thing it was worth it was the corned beef hash but I think I'm just about done with this place I mean I gave him three chances in every time they totally disappointed completely with the horrible service and not always correct orders. Compared to at least three different restaurants right down the road in Waukesha this place is service and response time and actually the time to get the food out is really not even comparable just so disappointing when I'm used a...
