Jake Rooney's — Restaurant in Harwich

Party of 6 decided to try out their trivia night. Collectively decided we will never be back because we had a weird interaction with staff that made us feel villianized and awkward. We paid one of the checks (first round of drinks) and the floor manager came and took the check instead of our waitress. When our waitress returned looking for the check, we informed her another staff person took it. The woman who took the book came back to the table and started yelling at us like we were children, that we "lied" to the waitress, and that she never took the check/card all she took was an empty book. We apologized and said we would be more than happy to resettle on the bill if something was amiss. She then spat that "I have been in this business for 16 years and know what I'm doing" We were confused why she was trying to fight with us when we repeatedly said we would settle the bill that was apparently lost. Well, we had dinner Sunday 4/10. It was not crowded at all, but service was not great. They had live music which was too loud and not great. Food prices range dramatically, so it's hard to know what your gonna be getting in quality. What we had was not bad overall, but I would say for the cost it didn't quite match up. Overall, service was poor, messed up the same order 2x, forgot waters, didn't take responsibility for mistakes, but blamed it on other things. The crowning point may have been when she brought a pitcher of water with some cheap throw away plastic glasses, and said they had a big party of 20 coming, so they didn't want to waste glasses. I would say that translates to "I don't find you/your table/group worth giving real glasses to because I want a bigger tip from the other group, so here's the junky ones". I felt generous leaving a 15% tip on this meal. Normally, I would be a 20% low end and more like 25 regular and good service like 30%, for anyone who finds a tip of 15% upsetting. Went there for lunch with my two kids and it was really great. It was really slow and food came super fast. Nachos were better than I expected, as the pulled pork made them pop. My oldest had the 1.5 lb broiled lobster and the meat basically slid out of the shell and tasted amazing. I had the fried fish tacos and youngest had the cheese pizza. Fish tacos were fresh and not frozen. Oldest had a bite and said he would order them if we came back. Cheese pizza wasn’t the best but my youngest ate 2 slices and all his fries, and I can say the fries were incredible.

Lastly, I came back that night to do take out. It was 6:30 and place was packed. The kitchen was backed up and bartenders let me know, but still felt bad I was left waiting a bit longer than I should have and bought me a drink, and a yummy chocolate shot! Those two were absolutely amazing and our server in the afternoon was cut from the same cloth. The people working there are just terrific and the food being so good, I know I’m coming back....
