My wife and I are from Pennsylvania travelling through Nebraska. We're on a cross country motorcycle trip. I did something at Murphy's on Friday July 9th that I have never ever done before, which is not leave a tip.
It was Friday night and obviously busy. The staff seems to be a little disorganized in that we had several servers before it appeared that one took over.
The bottom line is that we sat down at 6:00 pm. By 7:15 we still had no food (not even my salad). We had made a couple of inquiries about where our food was, the replies were all optimistic. At 7:15 we put the server on notice that we were thinking about leaving. She came back and said our order was being rushed. We asked what that meant. When she didn't have a solid answer, we told her to close out our tab, we were leaving. The close out time on the receipt was 7:21. My wife was on her second bloody mary and I was on my third beer. We paid our $19 tab and left the last drinks on the table. I left our server a zero tip which I really feel bad about and have never ever done before, but I felt trapped. I don't know where things got screwed up, but I can't justify leaving a tip of any kind with that service level. I left our server a note on the receipt apologizing. I suspect that she dropped the ball putting our order in, but she was obviously overworked running from table to table.
Unfortunately we slipped through the cracks and I blame management more than anyone for setting our server up to fail. Nice place but I'll never be able to comment one way or the other on the quality of the food. We went to McDonalds then back to our motel, sadly. Beware of Friday nights...
Read moreWe bowled in a tournament in Hastings and was looking for a sports bar with the Nebraska volleyball game on. When we arrived we fell in love with this great looking place and couldn't believe it wasn't packed with 2 big games playing. Ella was our server and she was awesome! We ordered our drinks & food and it came out quick. Two of us had burgers, 1 steak and 1 chicken tenders. The burgers tasted great until we got to the half that was raw/rare. My friend who had the steak ordered it med well and it was med rare. We didn't say anything as we were getting full from the sides...but then asked Ella to turn the volume up on the game (as it was a very boring atmosphere without no sound). She said she asked (whoever the so called manager was) and they said no! We couldn't believe that! So we asked her why not and the managers answer was "because she didn't want to!" Other guests had asked too with the same response so they left! We decided to ask one more time and that's when the manager was totally rude & unprofessional! Your establishment had maybe 5 total tables with guests in it and a few around the bar. We asked another couple where another sports bar was and they suggested Rivals so we left and went there... that place was packed!! We were lucky to get a table for 4 from those who just left. Wow what a shame we had to leave your place just because your manager "didn't want to turn the volume on!" Our women's state bowling tournament starts in March for 11 straight weekends and I'm sorry to say I won't recommend you! P.S. We saw the guests that left your place at your...
Read moreService was great — however after trying this place out for the first time, we won’t be returning due to the way the owner decided the handle what would have been a small issue. We ordered popcorn shrimp entree that had a repugnant/bad fish taste. I don’t want to assume it was rotten, but I did end up throwing up when I got home as it did not sit well. I only ate one. It happens, I’ve worked in restaurants and it won’t be the last time, not great, but no big deal.
The server was nice and we appreciated her help, however she was unable to take off the bad item, as the owner was on site and said the entree would stay on the bill. The owner also said nothing was wrong with the dish, which I’m not sure how to respond to? “Oh sorry, my mistake, I’ll eat the bad food now?” It was actually sent back to our table with the poor server reluctantly handing it back to us.
Over $13 dollars, I will be requesting a dispute for this item due to how this was handled by the owner. 🤷♀️ This should have been a nothing issue, and we were sorry to cause an inconvenience for the kitchen and server in the first place, but really? Everything else was OK/fine, why was $13 bad shrimp such a dealbreaker? A table of 6 that spent 300+. The owner and his reaction just soured our whole visit. A dispute will unfortunately cost more than $13 shrimp.
