My wife, mom my son& myself went there yesterday, we've been wanting to try it.I was a little afraid they'd be packed ,it was during phillies playoff game, being a tavern and all,we pulled up was only like 4 cars in lot...we went in we were only people in the place besides maybe 8 people sitting at bar,it's a big place, felt kind weird being so empty, are waitress/bartender was very friendly & nice, she brought are drinks quickly. Are son ordered chicken& waffles sliders as his meal as soon as he saw it,its one of his favorite meals( when homemade)he said it was not good at all,he said he could have made better from stuff we have in freezer at home,he never has never in 14 years complained about a meal out.....3 adults ordered soup, after 20 mins,I asked if could Check on soups,10 minutes later they came out, soup was very good, but half hour for soup?? Was older couple that was seated by young man working there, were heard them say after like 20 mins, that the guess nobody is ever going to come over and serve them, they walked out,we felt bad for them ,crazy cause they were only other people in there at a table besides us.are sandwiched came out after soup, they were good, certainly not delicious, but good.I know everything is expensive now a days but with 20% tip, bill was well over $100 for $2 beer specials,an appetizer 3 soups& 3 sandwiches, unfortunately my son said it all on way out.....we won't be going...
Read moreLast night we went to Poppyâs Tavern in Hatfield â our second visit to this local spot. The staff is very friendly, and the place definitely has that comfortable âlocalsâ barâ vibe. They offer a nice selection of local beers on tap along with all the traditional favorites. The soup special of the day was a seafood chowder, which I tried in a small bowl. It was delicious and packed with crab meat â I didnât notice much else in terms of seafood, but there was plenty of crab in every bite. For my main dish, I ordered the Cowboy Burger medium rare, though it came out closer to medium. The roll tasted a little stale, and while you could pick up a bit of char from the grill, it wasnât consistent throughout. I upgraded from chips to fries; they were fine, flavorful enough, but thinner like McDonaldâs fries â I personally prefer a thicker, meatier fry. My girlfriend ordered the Kiddlehopper Burger, a half-pound burger topped with beer cheese, sauerkraut, bacon, and caramelized onions on a pretzel bun with a side of stone ground mustard. She ordered it well done and really enjoyed it â messy, but flavorful. However, she mentioned not tasting much (if any) of the mustard, which is usually noticeable for its texture and tang. Overall, Poppyâs Tavern is a great neighborhood bar with friendly people and good food. While there were a few small misses, the experience was enjoyable, and weâll...
Read moreI can't even tell you guys how bad the food was here. Never in my life have I left a restaurant and actually made myself vomit intentionally, but I did after I left here.
We ordered the surf and turf burger without a bun. What was delivered to my table was a straight up burnt, plain hamburger patty. Couldn't even cut it it was hard as a rock. Like it had been sitting on the grill for hours. It was that dry monstrosity and a crab cake on a tray. Nothing else. No condiments. Just dry and disgusting. This we sent back immediately. At least they took it off the bill. I also ordered the seafood paella and every bit of that seafood tasted more fishy and old than gas station sushi let me tell you. Also it wasn't even paella. Why put such a unique menu item on your menu and not even make it correctly? It was dry, mostly rice, and I felt the heartburn IMMEDIATELY. This is what I chose to regurgitate after leaving. Absolutely awful.
And before you ask, yes, I did politely express my feelings to the server, and yes we did send it back. Nobody from management felt the need to come speak to us. The bartender didn't know how to make the drinks on the cocktail list either.
The vibes here were good though. If the food wasn't actually repulsive, I would have totally come back. What a great little space. Don't order anything but beer though....
