Going to Oishi Hibachi & Sushi Bar, we did not expect anything fancy. The building looks homey, so it was a comfortable experience. The customer service was top-tier with great accommodation and conversation. Our large group was perfectly entertained, especially by our server and chef. Though we can be the most rambunctious of people, the staff took it in stride. They were a great treat for my mother’s Birthday Outing.
Though we picked this restaurant last minute, it reached the standard for everyone in both food and service. Everyone was happy but me. I held it in since I was happy with the service and my mother being happy. The food, however, was not to my standards.
The rice and chicken hibachi lunch I had tasted of smoke. Chewing the meal was crunchy. Since I do not like wasting my food, I took it home to eat leftovers and nearly heaved the food up for how strong the smoke smell and crunch was. I could not enjoy my food. However, my family loved the food, so I do not know if it was my tastebuds or something else. Tasting my mother’s steak was much better than the chicken and rice I ordered.
Overall, I was happy if my mother happy. She was especially when the restaurant gave her a chocolate drizzled cheesecake on the house for dessert. The staff even came to sing for her. It was a very happy day for my mother, and I could not wish for more. Though the food was not good for me, it was for my mother, and she deserves the world. Thank you, Oishi...
Read moreWe are in Hburg for a sports tournament, and we needed dinner after many places had closed. The prices were great, which makes me think that Oishi is geared toward college students. Our server was very friendly, but he got two of the things we ordered wrong - he kindly offered to have the kitchen bring the shrimp yaki soba (we were given the chicken), but we just ate the chicken because we were tired and he was so nice! The noodles were a gummy texture. The gyoza were really good (we had steamed and friend), and my tuna tataki was good quality but lacked flavor and was served over bland iceberg lettuce. My son loves sushi and got three rolls - normally, he eats everything, but he called the rolls "mid" and said the salmon Avocado roll tasted weird. My husband had the steak roll, and it was the next best choice after the gyoza. My final comment is that people were actively vacuuming and prepping for closing while we were still eating - they should not advertise that they stay open until 10 pm on a Saturday night if the vacuum and mop(!) come...
Read moreSome of the reviews on here are real head scratchers. Maybe some folks haven't had the hibachi experience before and it's the "gee whiz" thing? I dunno.
The food at Oishi is fair at best. The onion soup (clear) seemed old and was low quality. Maybe they left it on the heat too long? The Hibachi steak was 100% overcooked. Asked for medium, got well done. The vegetables were overcooked. It was all greasy. Just not good food. The salad was the only thing they had going for them. The ginger dressing was spot on.
At that point, it's a 2-3 star review. Then inexplicably they added an automatic 18% gratuity to the check. We had a table of 5. I typically tip 25%. If the service is just terrible, I'll drop it to 15% or so and sometimes go above 25% if they just crush it. The service here was fine. Nothing wonderful, nothing terrible. And I would've def tipped the 25%, but automatic gratuity on a table of 5 is dumb. And with...
