There are 4 subways to choose from in this area. My experience today has reduced it to 3, and it was 100% avoidable.
I eat here a lot, mostly doing online orders and the same sub nearly every time. I placed my order, arrived 15 min later, and my 6 inch sub was done and waiting. I ate at the restaurant, tried taking a bite, and the bread was so hard and dry that I could barely get through it. Now I normally never take back food. I dont like the confrontation, but this was inedible. I told the only worker and just asked if I could get a new sandwich. She had to call her manager, and we had to wait for them to arrive. Now, I was just expecting that they were needed to input a code that the worker couldn't do.
So when the manager finally arrived, I was presented with the most condescending interaction I've had from a national fast good sub chain. They went on and on about what happens to bread when it is toasted. I explained that, yes, I understand the complexities and science behind toasting bread. I eat it all the time, at home and at restaurants. The sub I was served was a brick, I just wanted it replaced, and we can move on. That's a pretty simple request and solution to this problem.
The manager now proceded to call the owner of this franchise store. Just so we are all clear, my 6" sub was such an incredible ordeal that they needed to send it up the chain of command twice, right to the top. I then got to listen to the call as the manager tried to say that I thought regular toasted bread was too hard, as if the concept was new to me.
After they agreed to remake the sub, but not before trying to guilt me by saying they are using their daily free sandwich to replace it. Whatever, they replaced it (25 minutes after I got there), and I was satisfied.
Oh, but it wasn't over. The manager then decided to go all CSI: Subway on me and question when I ordered vs. when I picked it up. It was literally 15 min from order to pickup. The exact time the app said it would be ready. So now the manager is telling me I came too late and the toasted bread always gets that way. I respectfully disagreed, and he then went back to scan security cam footage. He looked up receipt times, pickup times, god knows what. Apparently, they are suggesting that Subway sandwiches that are toasted are only edible a minute after being made. Any longer and the sandwich bevomes a brick.
So all of this over a stupid 6" Subway sub. A problem that isn't a problem for any other restaurant that makes a mistake with an order. You replace, you say sorry, and I'm happy to come back again because I received respectable service.
But I won't be back and it is 100% because of the manager. A manager that is mentioned multiple times in 1 star reviews here.
Attention to the owner. You need to retrain this manager, and if not, then replace them. They know absolutely nothing about customer service. They know nothing about when to defend your product and when to just suck it up and take the mild inconvenience of replacing a sub-par sandwich. This is not a one-time issue with this person, and this is not the person you want as the face of your store as it...
Read moreWorst customer service and worst-looking sandwiches I’ve ever had.
From the moment we ordered, the worker had a terrible attitude—rude, sassy, impatient, and acting like we were wasting time. It was hard to tell if she or he rushed us through the order with the sassiest voice possible, mumbling in abbreviations instead of speaking clearly. When I asked her to repeat herself because I didn’t understand, she gave me a crazy look like it was my fault. Then, when I asked what kind of meat was in the meatball sub, she just said “meatball.” No explanation, nothing. When she asked her coworker, they both acted confused, as if “meatball” was a type of animal. It was clear she had no knowledge of what she was serving.
The sandwiches themselves were an absolute mess—the worst-looking ones I’ve ever gotten. The tuna sandwich tasted awful, and the meatball sub was drowned in ketchup for no reason. It seemed like she was deliberately making them as badly as possible. She threw the ingredients onto the bread carelessly, barely making an effort. She even shoved the sandwiches into the toaster aggressively and slammed the door like she was angry at us.
To top it off, she got mad at us when we filled a cup slightly before paying for a refill. Instead of handling it professionally, she called us out in the most condescending tone, saying, “Just so you know, refills are $2, you can pay at the register.” No other fast food place enforces that so strictly, let alone with such an attitude. She even slammed the register while we were eating.
After making our order, she didn’t even bother putting the food in a bag. When we asked for one, she said that Subway charges extra for a paper bag—which I know is not true. At any other Subway, it would have been free. It felt like she was making up rules just to be difficult.
The entire experience was awful. She clearly didn’t want to be there and took it out on the customers. Never...
Read moreMy family and I recently dined at the Subway In Kailua Kona. Our experience was simply fantastic. Here's a detailed breakdown of our visit.
The sandwich artist crafted an absolutely delicious chicken sandwich, complete with all the works. They took into account our preferences and made it with great care, ensuring a delightful culinary experience.
This establishment is not as busy as other Subway locations, which allowed us to enjoy our meal without the hassle of long waiting times. It's perfect for anyone looking to grab a quick and delicious sandwich.
As a bonus, there is plenty of parking available, making it very convenient for anyone driving to this location.
One of the aspects that could use a little work is the restaurant's appearance. The establishment feels a bit dated and could benefit from some upgrades to make the overall experience even more enjoyable.
Despite its need for some improvements, the Subway In Kailua Kona managed to absolutely impress us with a fantastic sandwich and a quick, convenient experience. I highly recommend this location for anyone in the Kailua Kona area seeking a tasty meal without waiting in long lines. Overall, I would rate this Subway branch a solid 5 out of 5 stars for their excellent customer service and...
