Sack N Save Kona — Local services in Hawaii

In the middle of our bar hopping night out I suddenly had a craving for some cup of noodle-style ramen!? What the... After leaving the Mask-Querdade bar, we headed just up the drive to Sack N Save.

They're located in the Lanihau Center. Parking was plentiful, but then again, it was around midnight! The store is an older location and was clean. I didn't observe the details of the store because I was focused on getting my cup of noodles!

After finding my precious cup of sodium, I was on the hunt for a fork. I didn't want to buy a whole pack of them so I headed to the deli area which of course was closed. There were no utensils on the counter, but I did see some behind the counter. I paused, debating whether or not to sneak behind the counter and grab one, my good conscience told me to just buy a box of my own and take the rest home with me. Then bing! An idea popped in my head. Buy a pack of chopsticks instead because we're always in need of chopsticks!

The bored male cashier was smiley and friendly. He was surprised that I had my Maikai Rewards Card on my phone. I guess there's not too many of that in Kona?

Suffice to say, I never did eat my cup of noodles and brought it and the chopsticks back to Maui lol!

Personnel are very helpful if one can find them around the store. Great selection of meat& produce. Good pokè bar in the rear of store. Nice variety of mid price range goods, too. Less expensive than Safeway, more expensive than KTA. One receives what one pays for. Instore Western Union available for money orders only, all other Western Union services have been suspended as of December '21... Call store for updates as they say they'll reopen regular Western Union operations soon... Store is in an established mall, walking distance from downtown. Nearby trolley service. To get to the grocery store from most southern Alii Drive hotels, condos, and resorts without driving, go to the nearest trolley stop on Alii Dr. Get off by the Kailua Pier, or Firestone Tires. Just let the driver know. Lanihau Center is an uphill hike for a bit more than a city block. Next door to a busy Post Office and a Longs/ CVC Store and vaccine pharmacy. Lanihau Center is accessed off either Henry St. North or Palani Rd. South., across Palani...

Sack N Save Kona... Good place to get groceries, about five to fifty cents more expensive than their local competition (KTA) just across the intersection, with the same products across the board as in Safeway, and just as many visitors as in Walmart. But I must say their seafood and deli counters offer some of the best lunch time plates and bowls for very reasonable prices. For a satisfying meal for two just order one fried chicken plate from the deli, roughly about $8, comes with the Island standards (i.e. rice/mac salad), affordable and fulfilling.
