Since leaving the islands in 2019, we’ve come back every couple years to visit Ohana still living in Kailuatown. This was obviously a new restaurant, having opened about 8-months ago. The live band was the attractant, but we’re always looking for a new place to count among our favorites.
After a 35-minute wait, we were seated at an interior banquette near the bar, with four two-tops nearby. The waitress came by to tell us the market price fish was sold out, and to let her know when we’re ready to order. The menu has one page of food, front and back; the rest of the book is wine, liquor, and a few mixed drinks. We chose the charcuterie board and the gnocchi, and one drink, “a new take on rum and Coke.”
The service SUCKED: once the order was taken, we had to ask for water. The bartender talked nonstop to the few people seated at the bar, at times arguing with the drink selections they inquired about. Once our food arrived, there was ZERO check in afterwards. No refill on waters, no small plates to share the board, no explanation of which cheeses and meats were on the board. Our next interaction was when the food was clearly finished from the board and bowl, and we were met with “how is the food, do you need anything?”
The check. That’s what we needed to exit the worst meal experience in Kailua. Overpriced, self-important, bland gnocchi and (at best) a selection of foods better found at Whole Foods for less money.
Like many other 1-star reviews on Yelp have shared, this place fails to deliver on anything it promises on the menu. The online menu is outdated since the menu supposedly changes with the season and the offerings of the land. The restaurant feels like they only exist to exploit the wallets of the less-informed travelers and give a poor representation to local farmers. Our biggest mistake was taking it at face value instead of doing some basic discovery before feeling beholden to the wait list.

Read moreMy wife and I booked a reservation here for 5pm a few days ago on mother’s day. I wanted to wait before leaving this review so i didn’t instant make a review strictly of emotion. But a few days later and this place is still stuck in my mind as the worst service i’ve ever had. After being seated we waited 20 minutes for a menu, which i had to get up and ask for. The waiter told me we had not been seen because he was the only worker that day and multiple employees did not come in. After he gave us the menus, he back 10 minutes later to take our orders. (Ribeye for my wife, Venison for me. and the charcuterie appetizer.) After 40 minutes had passed with no food served, i got up to find the waiter, he apologized and said he check on the kitchen.4-5 minutes later i notice him at another table and it seemed he had forgotten about me. I then asked a bartender for the manager, someone came out to speak to me, apologized, and offered us a free bottle of champagne. I told him him no, as my i just wanted my wife and i to have her food so we could enjoy our first mother’s day as parents. after speaking to the manager, we waited yet another 30 minutes for our food, and only my wife’s ribeye was ready. i never received my venison, and we never received our appetizer (which the waiter told us they were out of an hour after we ordered it). To top it all off, she asked for her steak to be cooked medium rare and to come with a caesar salad. the steak was cooked well done, and no salad. The Boardroom should be ashamed of their service and establishment. Especially when serving a steak with no sides for $55 and not even able to cook it to the customers request. We witnessed many customers waiting at the host stand for quite a while then leaving after no one was there to seat them. Provided a disappointing experience for my wife’s first mother’s day and wasted our time. will not be returning nor recommending this...
Read moreClearly we did not understand the aim of this establishment. We didn't come for the cocktails which must be amazing to garner all those 5 star ratings. We came for the food and were not impressed. The restaurant is self-described as a "tapas" bar, but there was noting on the menu that I would call a tapa. The pork belly bao was ok if we stayed away from the totally sweet sauce. The porchetta special (pronounced "porch etta" by servers) was underseasoned and seriously over cooked. The accompanying polenta was marred by a sweet quality that has no place in that noble dish. I suppose we're just fogeys but having house-techno-electro-thumping blasting in our ears the whole time did not contribute to an enjoyable dining experience. And just to be a bit snarky I would point out that a tab of over $100 for two plates, one drink, and one wine should reasonably be accompanied by clean menus. To snark even further, the podium used by the hostess was labeled as "Treehouse" which is actually a co-working establishment across the street. And finally, there was a "kitchen workers tip" added to the bill without any warning or notification. I foolishly simply paid the bill without examining every item, a bad habit of mine I know but in most restaurants extra tips and charges are mentioned by the server...
