UPDATE: Wife went here to try the place a third time. The food tasted terrible. It’s not worth stopping here for the price. So, in 3 trips, almost 6 months apart, it has only went down hill. Recommendation- avoid.
Been here twice. The food we received both times was very poor quality for the price and the taste was terrible. This is possibly the worst japanese we've ever had.
My suggestion, is to avoid this place if you value you wallet and your taste buds.
If you want great Japanese, go a town over to Blue Ridge and head to Kizuna. The food is much better, portion sizes are bigger, amazing authentic flavor, and the price is similar. The next decent one would be in Gainesville at Zen Ramen and sushi borrito.
Both are FAR better that this.
Btw, the owner deleted my review after a reply accusing me of trying to promote another business because I must have something to do with them! 🤦
This action alone should tell you everything you need to know. No one is here to promote another restaurant. Just simply telling the truth so others know where to avoid and where they can find really good food in the area.
(Again, they also deleted my review - after my reply to their rebuttal) - they can do this twice a month a fellow business owner told me this, btw. Sorry, as long as I update my review, you cannot do this either.
Instead of a rebuttal, or deleting my review, why not take the constructive criticism as a learning experience?
And the sad part is... I really wanted to like this restaurant, it being so close to home. My hopes are that they improve the flavor of the recipes, overall menu and pricing.
Also, remember: Because of employee or employee family or friend comments used to inflate reviews, Never eat somewhere that has under a...
Read moreUpdate after business response: Your unprofessional response does not make your food better, nor does it change my mind as a potential paying customer, but it does highlight your poor customer service. I’m not being spiteful; I’m being honest. I’m a busy mom who finally got an afternoon out with my husband for the first time in years and was really disappointed after I insisted on eating there, against my husbands wishes. I love supporting small businesses (as made evident by my numerous glowing reviews for small businesses all over the place) but I also have integrity and will not lie. If you don’t heed constructive criticism of areas for improvement, you have no one to blame but yourself. EVERYONE is struggling financially right now. EVERYONE is having to work harder. Maybe look at the negative reviews for the highly rated small businesses around you and see how they handle poor reviews instead of displaying a nasty attitude to the whole world. Good luck!
Update a year later/after new ownership(?): Not good—we ate there in-person. Awkward staff just crowded around the front area, watching as you order. Food was pretty gross, to be honest. If you’re not someone who cooks at home, I could see it being okay, but it very much reminded me of those frozen meals you dump into a skillet. Especially for those prices and how expensive everything is getting these days. Will not be returning. My teppanyaki bowl with yum yum sauce was super delicious! All the flavors complimented each other very well. My husband agreed with other reviews on here saying the ramen broth could use more flavor. But I sampled my kids’ chicken fried rice and it was also really good! We will definitely...
Read moreWould have loved to have eaten there. Heard a lot good about the place (thus the 2 stars, based on the menu and others I know who have eaten there). Went for a 2 pm late lunch on a Thursday. My companion wanted sushi, their mainstay. Sorry, can't make it because the cook just left for a medical appointment. OK, but there's other good-looking stuff on the menu. My companion asks for seaweed salad. None. Woman says she knows how to make, but "he's grayed it out on the register." All right, cucumber salad? Also grayed-out. At that point we left. Heck of a way to run a business. Feel sorry for the woman at the register and the man left to cook having to deal with that.
(Updated: Thank you for your response and offer. We had to leave town after lunch. We'll be back in a few weeks and will try again, no credit expected. Best in dealing with the shortages; we are too. I just feel that had the seaweed salad been available since she said she could make it or the alternative, we would have continued to order. Perhaps you were out of ingredients, but they were not armed with that info to be able to explain. All they could say was that it was grayed out in the register. (The lady, who was very kind, even offered a second time to try to make it. We thanked her but wondered if it wasn't in the register how we would pay for it. She agreed, so that's when we tried...
