God, I love this small Korean chain. The Fremont one's been gone for years and the owner has been friends with the Fremont owner for decades. When I asked if they planned to reopen elsewhere, he said that the Fremont owner had retired after the landlord sold off the land for redevelopment and due to an injury. What a shame, what an absolute shame. So on to the food, look, it's not fancy, it might even be best hoagie you've ever had (although mind you, the Bay's always been short on good hoagie spots), but it's good food made by locals. They've done well to keep prices affordable and the quality is more than enough for what you can expect out of a hole in the wall restaurant. This shop was never made for foodies, it was made for simple local people looking for cheap and good eats on a budget, and that's all it needed to be.

I came here on a whim on a Sunday and realized they are closed on Sundays. I decided to come back on a Tuesday and was not disappointed! It's a small place tucked away in the corner of a shopping center. The inside is clean and quaint. The staff is very nice, they greeted me when I came in and when I grabbed my food to leave. The prices are affordable, and the steak sandwiches come with fries included! They have many other menu options, and I will definitely swing by again to try something different from them. I ordered the Bob's Hoagy. It was packed with meat and cheese. It also included fresh onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. There was a good balance of meat, cheese, and produce and a good portion for the price of $13! The fries it came with were perfectly cooked and crispy, and not too greasy.

The Bob's Hoagy Steak in Fremont recently closed down. Came here with my dad hoping it would be the same. We usually get a 2 piece fish and chips for about $8. We didn't see it on the menu and was told that they are fish fillets. Okay, sure we'll try it. What we got was 2 really small and really thin pieces. All for $12. That's ridiculous. I warn you all not to get the fish. It was overdone, and the breading on the inside was still soggy/mushy. If I ever come back, I'll only be getting their sandwiches.

On 07/23 at 2:45pm, I came in with my partner to order 2 Hoagy Sandwiches. Due to the current global pandemic and social distancing measures being placed we made sure to enter with masks on. After ordering, we began to wait and watched the cook begin to prepare our order. First thing I noticed and was shocked to see, was that the cook did not have on any gloves, neither did the older woman that I assume is the wife of the owner. I immediately asked the older man that took our order if they will be using gloves when handling the food product and he said it was not necessary to wear gloves because “they do not touch the food.” I was conflicted with his response but said ok. I kid you not, 30 seconds later I saw the man preparing our food grab the bread for our sandwiches with his bare hands after grabbing multiple utensils and handling meat products for the sandwich. Then at the same moment, the older woman reached her bare hands into a container of bell peppers for my bell pepper hoagy sandwich and placed it on the stove. I immediately was uncomfortable and asked the man cooking if he’d put gloves on and he looked at me with a blank face and said no words he then motioned for the woman to speak to me and when I repeated myself by asking if they were utilizing gloves when cooking due to covid prevention reasons she said no one touched our food. I referenced to the meat on the stove plus the veggies and she completely denied grabbing them and said she was making food for herself. I was flabbergasted that she lied in my face and rather than arguing I asked for a refund immediately. I’m posting this to say, if you want your food made accurately and safely do not come here. They aren’t wearing gloves and barely have on their masks and are...

Bob's is a mainstay in South Hayward. Anyone that has lived here for some time knows Bob's!

This quicky cheesesteak pick up spot is great. The quality of the food is pretty good and the service is always quick.

The only reason I did not give it the fifth star is due to the inconsistency in delivery. I've noticed that the amount of beef can vary, the amount of beef and cheese together will vary, and it is just not always made the same each time. Too much or too little mayo. Lots of fat in the beef. Minor issues, but this affects the overall experience.

Regardless, the cheesesteaks are very good, especially when they are made very well on any given day! I will admit that we have not had anything outside of the cheesesteak, but they have a very wide variety of food, including fish and chips (I will try this one day!), sandwiches, some teriyaki dishes, and others.

I highly recommend stopping by if you haven't...

The first time I ordered from here, the steak was cooked nice, with decent seasoning and flavor. The sandwich has a good and hearty amount of meat spread evenly across, good amount of cheese, and the bread was toasted nicely. So, I thought, let's order again! My second order, which was literally the next day: Overcooked, dry, unseasoned cardboard chunks covering barely one inch of the center of the bread. I think they called this "meat." Barely a touch of cheese or mayo, couldn't even find it. Bread was soggy and mush. How could you screw up back to back days? If you switched cooks, train them all the way, and perform quality control. And canned mushrooms. CANNED, really? If you're going to use canned vegetables, make sure you wash the preservative off of them before cooking. Otherwise they wind up tasting like the slices of bleach...
