Don Polvoron Bakery — Restaurant in Hayward

Only rating it for their bakery/bread as I have yet to try any food items from their deli. The bread here is made with actual flour, eggs, sugar, etc.. not a premixed baking mix like they are using in so many other local Mexican bakeries. When every single item in a bakery has the same flavor it is a sign they are is using an instant ready mix (the just add water type). Other tell-tell signs: pastries are too yellow, too sweet or every item has a strong almond or imitation vanilla flavor. Those bakeries are awful and everything you buy ends up tasting the same.

For this reason alone I rate this with 4 stars, the bread here has a natural color but best yet is the natural flavor you get when using flour, eggs, sugar, butter, etc..and the items I tried were not overly sweet or had any of the imitation vanilla flavor often found in Mexican pastries. I also like that they are not using margarine because that really makes the bread stink and taste awful (I tried Guadalajara bakery in San Leandro and the margarine smell was so overwhelming it was just gross, item ended up in the garbage)

The only thing is the asthetic aspect, it can use a little sprucing up. Make the customers want to come back rather than run out as soon as...

I can't say enough good things about Don Polvoron Bakery. Their cakes are absolutely delicious and always beautifully decorated. While I've only ordered a few times, every experience has exceeded my expectations. The freshness and exquisite taste of their cakes truly stands out.

At every party, my guests rave about how amazing the cakes taste and often come back for seconds. Over the past few months I've ordered tres leches cake for my daughter's 21st birthday, a marble cake for my granddaughter's birthday and a strawberry cake for my daughter's 17th birthday. I'm not a big fan of strawberry cake, but I was blown away by how delicious theirs was.

We came here Wednesday May 26, 2021 to order a one sheet cake for a special occasion and when we picked the filling that goes in between, I chose fresh strawberries. Fast forward to Saturday May 29, 2021, my aunt went to pick up the cake, when she arrived with it, the filling inside was filled with VERY TINY pieces of strawberries and mostly just frosting, some strawberries were also already ROTTEN. My aunt had also told us that staff were very rude and that they had even messed up our order. The flowers we asked for weren’t the correct color and when my aunt asked to get it fixed they spray painted it with black food coloring. The staff were disrespectful.
