China Kitchen — Restaurant in Hazelwood

FYI: I am one of the owners' sons so feel free to disregard the 5 star rating. This isn't so much a review, as much as it is an attempt to address the most common "issues" that I have been noticing with the negative reviews.

1st off. My parents were both born in a 3rd world country in the late 1940s. that said, they are technologically challenged. Online orders can be placed, but they are only received via fax. My brother has been assisting them for the past several months and has been making efforts to renovate the process/system as well as providing another source of labor to run their business.

2nd. Being overcharged. There are claims by individuals that they are being overcharged for items. Lunch prices are $5.95 and at dinner it's $7.95. From what I've seen of the Chinese Food industry, that is the typical norm for the price of Chinese food. Certain modifiers to these products incur costs. A combo typically involves a half order of rice, the main entree, and your choice of an Eggroll or Crab Rangoon. Items in addition to this will incur costs accordingly. A half order of any entree will be accompanied by a half-order of white rice. A full order should be accompanied by at least a half order of rice as well.

3rd. Communication. My parents have a heavy accent and although they are proficient in english, they are not completely fluent. Typically what happens is that people who order an unmodified item, usually get what they ordered. Issues arise when modifiers come into play. This issue is further exacerbated by the language barrier between my parents and the staff, two of which are hispanic, and are proficient in english to the same degree as my parents.

4th. We do what we can to make sure every customer gets their order properly. To that end, if you have the option to dine during non lunch or dinner rushes, I encourage you to do so since the average cook time on a dish is about 5-10 minutes when the capacity of our order taking system (Pen and paper) is not being overly stressed. Also, to help mitigate delays with large orders upon pickup, please plan with the lunch and dinner rushes in mind and do call ahead ordering. A good rule of thumb is that for each dish being ordered, expect a prep time of 5 minutes. So six entrees would require 30 minutes.

PS: We could attempt to upgrade our ordering system, but unfortunately, those are cost prohibitive. When I worked at a Chili's my boss told me the ALOHA system that they used for ordering food cost about $100k. I mean there is a reason why food at one of those bars and grill usually costs $10 a plate and...

Complete dishonest rip off. I ordered something, explicitly asking for no mushrooms, the person on the desk wrote down everything in chinese letters, nodding both times I said no mushrooms. When the cook brought the order out, I could see him distressed and angry and shaking his head, so I guessed something wasn't right but the conversation was in chinese so I couldn't understand. The cook handed my dinner in a plastic bag and I left. When I opened the food, it was full of mushrooms amidst other veggies. I have an allergy to mushrooms and could have gotten very sick if I didn't check. I cannot believe someone can be this dishonest. That angry exchange between the cook and the desk person in chinese tells me they handed me the wrong order in full knowing. Seriously? For $10??? I had to throw the entire thing in trash. what a completely dishonest...

I normally go to China peace but since they were closed I decided to try this place. I ordered a chicken wing combo and a half order of chickens fried rice. I paid 14.65 which was a rip off and the rice was ok at best. The wings were actually pretty good but very small l. I will never go here again I felt ripped of definitely not worth the price I should of waited and just saved my money for China peace. I wasn't full at all and the rice comes in a plastic container which is definitely not eco friendly if they gave you a little more food for your dollar it wouldn't be so bad.
