For all you Houstonians who remember The Mason Jar, it is now Goode Company Kitchen & Cantina. Not every restaurant can be a 5 star experience, but this one was very close. I would give 4.5 stars if I could, but I can't give a full 5. The space has been beautifully remodeled with lots of windows and a nice Mexican flare. There is a decent sized bar at the entrance with several tables lining the outer perimeter. The main dining area, separate from the bar, has table and booth seating options. The restaurant itself is not very big, but they do a good job with the space available. It is a shotgun style structure, so you can see the entire dining area from any table. First off, the service was fantastic! We were well taken care of and never had empty drinks, chips or salsa. Margaritas, chips and salsa are so important for a good Mexican restaurant. This is why I am only giving 4 stars. I wasn't "wowed" on these items. The "Damn Good Margarita" was more sweet tasting than tart and didn't seem to be very strong. They serve them in a regular pint style glass. I was surprised it wasn't in a Mexican style glass. The chips are thin and crispy with a light coating of salt. The red salsa is warm and smokey with a slight sweet undertone. It's not the best salsa I've ever had, but it was better after I added a little salt to the dip cup. GCK&C has verde salsa upon request. Not a fan of this salsa since I prefer the creamier green salsa, but others at the table enjoyed it. For my meal, I ordered the No. 2 plate. It comes with one Enchilada, one taco al carbon, one tamale, rice and beans. I was able to substitute the tamale for a crispy ground beef taco. I wanted a plain cheese enchilada, but I was served a chicken enchilada instead. I did not send it back because I think the confusion was on my part. I didn't communicate well at the start of my order. It was good, but it wasn't what I originally wanted. Again, not our servers fault. The crispy beef taco was in a delicious shell. It was the best crispy taco I have ever eaten. Many times, those type items get soggy, but this one stayed crispy and it was filled with a good amount of tasty toppings. The beef fajita taco al carbon was seasoned well and rolled in a flour tortilla. I only had one bite since I was full, so I get to enjoy leftovers for lunch today. The rice and beans were okay. My rice had some hard pieces in it and the beans didn't have much flavor. I don't typically eat more than one bite of beans, so it wasn't a huge deal personally. I was more disappointed in the rice. All in all, I would go back to GCK&C. I loved the atmosphere, the music they played, the service, the portions are large and the meal itself was good. I know how to doctor the salsa to fit my tastebuds and next time I would get a higher quality margarita.

Goode Co. Cantina was truly an experience — and one I won’t forget anytime soon. The customer service here is absolutely next level. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth, professionalism, and such great energy from the staff. Everyone was attentive, helpful, and genuinely seemed to enjoy what they do — and that makes a huge difference. One heads-up: the wait can be long — even if it’s just you and one other person. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, otherwise you’re left hoping for a spot at the bar (which, to be fair, is a nice vibe if you get lucky). But trust me — don’t just show up and expect to be seated quickly, especially during dinner hours. The restaurant itself is beautiful, modern, and very clean. Everything was super well-kept and had a great ambiance — whether you’re on a date, out with friends, or just exploring Houston’s food scene. Now for the food: I ordered a salad, and it blew me away. It was full of rich flavor and unexpected little pairings that complemented each other perfectly. You can tell they put thought and care into each ingredient — not just your typical “throw it in a bowl” salad. The menu seemed really well-crafted, and the portions were great too. And just to add to the uniqueness of the night — while we were eating, a bad thunderstorm rolled in and the restaurant actually lost power! But even then, the staff handled it with so much grace and professionalism. They kept everything running as smoothly as possible, still checking in on us, still keeping the vibe light. It honestly didn’t even take away from the experience. That kind of calm under pressure says a lot about the management and team. Overall, I’m really glad I went — it was a cool experience and a great place to try once. For me personally, it may not be a regular spot I return to, but I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun night out with great service, great food, and a lively Houston atmosphere.

Hadn't been here before but have been to many Mexican Food restaurants all around Houston and Texas so I consider myself somewhat an expert in this cuisine. Have to say, Goode Co. is probably my new favorite. It would be 5 stars all around if it weren't for the price and just a few lacking food quality issues. I would consider Good Co. to be more boutique Tex-Mex so if that is not your thing you may not enjoy it. Now on to the food - While everything we had was terrific the prices are a little too high to earn a complete 5 stars. The tortillas were freshly hand made (nice touch) but just slightly undercooked. That doesn't bother me too much b/c they were thicker than you usually get around town and were soft and doughy which I like. Most other places are thin and chewy which is no good. The tamales were wonderful but also a little under stuffed. I like to taste the filling but that was really just in the middle of the tamale and not really spread throughout. I get it, tamales can be difficult to get that masa/filling just right. Everything else was perfect, from the rice to the charro beans, the cheese enchiladas just melted in your mouth - perfectly done. I love that they give you the fried tortillas chips with the queso as well. The empanadas were delicious. The deserts were a nice way to round out the meal although by that time I was completely stuffed. The atmosphere is terrific - the restaurant was clean and the decor is spot on. Our server was probably one of the best I have had in a while. She was very attentive and also very friendly. The bar is stocked with some of the best tequilas there are and they have a wide selection of bourbon and other spirits as well. I am kind of nitpicking here b/c the overall experience was 5 stars but hey, nothing is perfect. It will be a spot I frequent when I am looking for a quality meal or a special occasion experience.
