Lucca's — Restaurant in Helena

12/20 I dined with my family from out of town. Tried to send back a plate that was made incorrectly. Server and chef complained in the open about it, all they offered was to take it off my bill and stated "sorry the kitchen is closed", from that point on our server ignored me and after she finally came back i was not offered anything, nothing, not even a salad or bread or a refill on my drink. This ruined my night, I went home hungry after watching everyone finish their meals, I went to bed hungry. I'm appalled at the service I received as this restaurant has been in my opinion the best Restaurant in town. I am a local professional in this community who has been dining with lucas since the small house by the ball field. Words cannot express how disappointed I am even after attempting to discuss this matter with the manager. I was treated as though I should be happy with a "sorry" and dessert and entrée. Why would I spend a single dollar of my money to come back here? After that treatment for sending back a dish and now complaining to the manager I would fear retaliation. I have eaten here dozens of times, I have yet to be disappointed. The servers are wonderful, in particular Tina, we always try and get seated in her section if possible. Ray and the rest of the staff are all very knowledgeable about the extensive wine menu. Then you have the food, I can honestly say that in over 10 years of going here have only ever had one complaint about something I ordered (steak temp) and it was immediately addressed by our waitress and replaced by a perfect steak a couple of minuets later. I highly recommend the mussels and New York strip with the potato cakes off of their menu, though their specials are often creative and very tasty, the Chef kills it every time! My spouse enjoys the pork chop, which I've never had myself, but it always looks SO good. The price may seem a bit steep initially, but after an amuse-bouche, salad, and local bread (all three of which come with the meal), plus an appetizer, the main dish, and some wine or a cocktail prepared by the bar next door its worth every penny. There are many great dinner/date restaurants in Helena, but this is the only one I would unquestionably give 5 stars. This place is a great date night place. First you walk in and are greeted by a very enthusiastic hostess. Then you are seated and offered, off menu wines. The menu is small serious and to the point, in a good way. There is variety of foods for all palettes and restrictions. We are keto and had a great experience. Our waitress was new but amazing. We decided to be adventurous and try stuff that we don’t normally get. For appetizers we got the mussels with pesto and crab stuffed peppers, both were phenomenal. Plus the wine that was suggested paired perfectly with the apps. After that they brought salad that was paired with an amazing vinaigrette. We ordered the lamb chops and the veal and I seriously can’t choose which one was better, both were amazing. I was slightly worried about ordering the lamb because I’ve had it in the past and didn’t like it. But this lamb was absolutely perfect! If you aren’t sure whether you like lamb or not, this is the place to try it, 100%. The veal was lightly breaded and had a Marsala sauce and was sooooo tender that you can cut it with a fork only.
