I've been disappointed the last two times I've been there. Tonight, was the most disappointing. Granted, Friday night, place was packed. It was 7 to 8 people deep waiting to order. There were at least 15 people in front of me waiting for orders. I waited 45 minutes for a burger and salad to go. No worries, had a drink and had conversations with people I hadn't seen in a while. Staff at the counter was friendly, but they it was obvious they were overwhelmed. Needless to say, salad was fine, but my burger didn't even have what was supposed to come on it onions and pickles. Potatoes were so overcooked they were inedible. It was the second time in two months I was disappointed. At least have someone doing quality control when its that busy. I saw others that got food, and it should've been checked before being served. As I mentioned in my post, the other time I was disappointed in the last two months was a Wednesday night, it wasn't busy, the salad was great, but the burger was substandard. I want too see them successful, so have some quality control in busy nights. I wanted to take it back, but i was...

First, I love the concept that the Old Salt Outpost operates on! Local ranchers co-op, local beef, quality food! All the good stuff....portion size, service, nice atmosphere, business model, horseradish mayo, beef fried potatoes cooking method, self-serve water station! Really liked having the full bar right next to Old Salt Outpost and it probably makes it easier for them not to have to worry about serving drinks. With that said there were a couple problems, some of them admittedly personal preference. The beef fried potatoes were very salty, to the point my wife could not finish her portion. The smokey BBQ sauce had no flavor, just bland. The burgers needed the cheese or they would be dry, but that's coming from a WI guy who loved "butter burgers". There is no option for "hamburger" on the menu but I'm sure they would leave the cheese off if you asked. The potatoes are a little overpriced for the portion size you get. Not a bad place. Super happy they are here in...

Stopped in Helena for a night and since I was staying downtown this was the closest option that was open on a Sunday evening. The menu is very basic. The burger was meh… it wasn’t magical and it wasn’t awful but it left a lot to be desired. I will say the pickles on the burger were tasty but there was more onion than beef on the burger. I literally laughed when I opened the top and saw the amount of onion! I got the ranch dipping sauce with the potatoes. The ranch was interesting.. it was green and thick and had just a hint of ranch flavor. I’m guessing that it is a homemade sauce? I didn’t care for the potatoes at all. Personally I found the whole meal bland. 3 stars because the food came out quick and I was hungry after a long day of driving. Would I...

Fantastic concept. Love the farm to table aspect. But if you’re looking to showcase your farm’s high quality beef, then you need to not cook the patties to a char - especially as thin as they are. These were like chewing thin briquettes. Overall our meal had high quality ingredients, but everything was over-cooked. I’d also suggest first boiling your potato slices just past blanched, letting them cool completely and THEN frying in the beef tallow. You’ll end up with much more surface area, which will translate to more crunchies and more beef flavor. We had burger sauce (ketchup and mayo) as well as buttermilk ranch alongside our potatoes. Of the two the ranch was better.

If you are in Helena and craving a burger, this should be your first stop 🤤🍔 Instead of ordering off the menu, I asked the gal working what her favorite order was. She said it was a burger topped salad. Music to my ears since I prefer my burger wrapped in lettuce anyway. When I tell you this was the most delicious Cheeseburger salad I've ever had, that's nor an understatement!!! The burger was cooked perfectly and seasoned to deliciousness. The salad was crisp and crunchy with the most amazing in house ranch dressing. The whole meal was to die for. I'll definitely be returning when in Helena next! 👌🏾
