When management changed hands, those of us that were in fairly regularly noticed a total staff turnover. This never bodes well for the customers of a beloved establishment. On Monday a friend and I decided to order pick up from Steve's to celebrate our first chance to visit since covid happened. The young lady answering the phone was dismissive and rude, (I requested fries instead of hash browns as always. She said can't do that. I explained I have every single time I've been there including the previous Tuesday. I said nothing else regarding it after the change was made) She began speaking in a monotone and had difficulty understanding everything I said after that. When I picked up my $30+ order, she put my food down and walked off. I tipped a $5, checked my bags for the meals and left. It was hands down the most disappointing meal I've ever had from them. Eggs Benedict with over poached eggs, 2 small slices of meat on 1 side and barely any hollandaise. It may seem trivial to others, but I cannot afford to indulge in restaurant visits often. I held locally owned Steve's on Custer as a place well worth my choosing them when splurging. Now, with no familiar faces, untrained staff that is feeling the stress and passing it along to customers, and a total let down of a splurge meal I don't think I can choose Steve's so freely anymore. And it makes...
Read moreThis was not a delightful experience but not horrible. Lets start with coffee. It was so weak you could see through it. My wife's syrup for her French toast was so much darker than the coffee she almost put creamer in the syrup.
Next i got the (Local Favorite) Irish Eggs Benedict. This was a mistake. Holindase sauce was separated and sour, poached egg was literally hard boiled and the hash browns tasted like cheap butter substitute. I ate half and had them trash the rest. The hash on it was okay but honestly the canned has at walmart has more flavor. I got a side of biscuit and gravy. 1 biscuit covered in watered down what I believe was powder gravy and chunks of leftover sausage link chunks. Not big sausage like store bought frozen. The biscuit was good, gravy was gravy but ice cold. When I say ice cold it wasn't an exaggeration. It was so cold we thought they forgot to reheat it.
Wife got French Toast meal. Said it was French toast. Nothing flashy but she loved the huge sausage links. Kids got eggs and on got pancakes. The one that got hash browns kept talking about how they tasted funny. To describe them imagine someone puts tons of margarine on your potatoes and that's all you taste.
In the end we agreed never to return. There are tons of places...
Read moreSo let me just say this was just a chance encounter. My hotel in Helena, even though really nice, didn't have a breakfast as part of the stay. They had a restaurant, but since I can can't have bread or potatoes, they are limited. So I get in my car, Google Helena Montana best breakfast, and the first thing that pops up is Steve's Cafe. They have an older staff and they are not the fastest in serving your food, but....perfection takes a little longer. I had a garden omelet with fruit and a side of bacon. Let me say that the bacon was my least favorite and it was awesome bacon. This literally has never happened. My taste buds never fire.like they did today. The fruit was great as well, but at the end of the meal I was so full and feel like I just had crack, because I can't wait for my next encounter. I'm only in Helena for two days so that encounter will take place tomorrow. There is a reason it's number one my friends. They are only open until 2 30p so take that into consideration, but man oh man, what a breakfast. I've been in most of the U.S and in 12 Countries and this was the best I had in the U.S. and compares to the best I've had period. Find this place, you will...
