Taco Treat — Restaurant in Helena

I used to love this place, but it has seriously gone downhill. The customer service is terrible. Three different times over the last two years I've gotten food from there and they forgot to give me an entire meal I paid for. I understand they have been short staffed, like everywhere else in town, yet this is the only place thay has consistently messed up orders. I can understand being shirt staffed and forgetting a side or a topping or making a few mistakes, but forgetting to give a customer a full meal that was paid for is ridiculous and there really is no excuse for obviously jusy not paying attention. The first time this happened, I called and the lady I spoke to just said "Well we were out of the sauce for that meal." And when I explained I explained she should have asked my Doordash driver to contact me and see if wanted something different, she said "Sorry, that's not my problem." And hung up on me, and that time was before Covid. This time I told the person at the window this is the third time this has happened and he jusy said "Sorry, it doesn't happen on my shift." When clearly it does because it just did. Then I got my good and the "side" of rice was a whole maybe 2 tablespoons worth.(Yes, the attached photo was taken before I ate any of it). I haven't had this many bad experiences consistently at any other fast food place in town, Covid or not. Very disappointed as this used to be one of my favorite places to eat. I doubt I will be...

We LOVE Taco Treat! Been a fan for over 30 years. Any time we got to town we frequented their stores in Great Falls, Havre, Helena, Missoula, Billings, and a very long time ago, Butte! And the Helena location has FINALLY reopened their lobby after a LONG, almost 3 year stint of drive-thru only after COVID. I am glad to report the food here is still AMAZING! This is not a stuffy froofy fancy restaurant. The lobby is clean and functional with quality food at an affordable price point. You order at the counter and then go find a table. You simply cannot go wrong with 2 or 3 Beef Corn Tacos and Cheese Fries. (Make sure you ALWAYS ask for the American Cheese on the fries, shredded of course, which they also use on the tacos.... Sounds weird, but it is AMAZING!) The Tater Treat Supreme is very good as well, as are the Indian Tacos and both varieties of enchiladas. But those Tacos are our favorite! Their red Taco Sauce is excellent! For a fancier dining experience, definitely consider the Taco Treat Amigo Lounge the next time you are in Great Falls! You get wait staff, complimentary chips and salsa, and a full bar! (Their version of the Caesar is very good!) Did I mention those amazing Tacos? (FYI...we are NOT fans of any of the Taco Treat drive-thru's as it seems the portions are not the same as the lobby, and the amazing taco sauce is in little skimpy not-so-amazing...

I miss the old Taco Treat.

If you've heard people raving about Taco Treat, it's because this place used to be amazing. Back in the day of the push-button drive thru and tinfoil wrapped containers, it was some of the best Mexican fast food you could get.

About 10-15 years ago, something changed. I was living out of state and heard from various family/friends that Taco Treat wasn't good anymore. I didn't believe it. But now that I've moved back, I can sadly say they were right.

I can't quite put my finger on it. Are they using lower quality meat? Are they keeping things like enchilada sauce on the shelf longer? It's hard to say. But anyone that has eaten here for years will tell you this food can be made so much better than what they're serving now.

And it's sad. Believe me when I say this food used to be absolutely amazing. I still dream of 80s/90s Taco Treat. I eat here every 6 months or so in hopes that the food suddenly becomes good again. I'm always disappointed.

If anyone involved in the operations of Taco Treat sees this - I beg you, please consider raising the food quality back to what it was. The increase in food cost will be worth the increased business. If Taco Treat returned to its previous form, the drive thru would be packed all day every day.
