I had to give this location a star to review and that is the only reason why. I recently visited this location awhile back and was very disappointed. Now, I know why there wasn't any cars in the drive thru. I placed an order for a 6 piece count wings. I waited for someone to come on the speaker after about 3 hello's and I placed what I thought was my order. After arriving at the window. The window attendant didn't repeat my order nor confirm it. However, asked for payment, closed window, gave me my order and I left. I was in the area because my friend needed a ride home from work that day. I didn't check my order, assuming it was correct and I didn't want to be rude about it in front of the window attendant. I drove off. Once home, I opened the order to something I didn't order. It was a chicken sandwich of some sort. I don't like bread so I didn't eat it. Besides that it didn't look good, so instead I called the cooperate office first to complain about the customer service and how I was attended during my visit. I was instructed to call the local restaurant to make a complaint about the service I received that day and the wrong order that was given to me as well. I spoke to both a female manager and a male GM that was visiting that day (I didn't get there names because I was assured that I was going to get my order replaced in its entirely). I was not looking for a free meal because I had already paid full price for what I originally thought I ordered. The GM I spoke to took my name down and number. I did mention that I did not live in Helotes and that I would return randomly to pick up my order. He also assured me that there was no time frame to have my order replaced. Today, I sent my children to pick my order up assuming that my name was written down on their records but it wasn't. I then called the Helotes location and spoke to a GM and he questioned me as if I stole a meal from them. I just sent my kids to pick an order I had already paid for about a month prior. The GM I spoke to today was named Jose Esquido ( excuse my pronunciation). After our call ended he made me feel as if I was trying to get a free meal from their company. Believe me if I was gonna lie and get a free meal off a restaurant it would if been from CANES. Their food is much better. I'm sure they don't make their customers feel as if they were trying to get a free meaI, if the order was wrong and just needed to be replaced. To be honest, what happened to the customer is always right. *I do not recommend going thru the drive thru at this location nor to give them business, if they are not going to believe in their customers nor write down their names for an order they messed up on. If you do find yourself there. Check your order and give CANES a try. You won't be disappointed. And to the GM I spoke to today. Thanks for NOTHING! I will make sure to expose your rude professionalism on all reviews possible. Now, I feel like you stole something from me. MY money for an order I never received....

Read moreMany folks don't give a "good gal darn" about a review for a fast food chain restaurant. For those good people I would say to you that man does not live on pate de foie gras alone. And since this place has such a kitschy name that reflects a tongue in cheek nod to such an affable cowboy actor from a bygone era, it deserves a word or two.
As you might surmise, this place is all about chicken including the "cluck". He was the guy opening the door, handing out menus, and making wise cracks about wearing sunglasses indoors, (which I was still wearing after barely breaching the entryway). Lots of smiles, can I help yous, and more such courteous banter on what was their first week of opening.
The menu had strips, wraps, salads, wings, and one lonely entry of a chicken sandwich which we ordered. Everything has a cajun flair these days, but the wife did not want cayenne ranch on her chicken nor seasoned fries which sent the newbie order taker scurrying for help. I made it easy and just got the chicken sandwich the way it came much to the little counter girl's relief.
They got my wife's order right except no regular ranch on the side and brought seasoned fries. They remedied that error post haste. Now I cannot help but compare the sandwich to Chick-fil-a. That's inevitable and unavoidable. No huge difference between the buns and the salad, nor the small size of the fried breast. The taste was miles apart, however. Now I understood why the sandwich normally comes with the cayenne ranch. It needs the flavor boost!
When it comes down to the final plucking and clucking, SC is a little less expensive than Chick-fil-a considering a full meal consisting of sandwich, fries and a drink. The difference is in the superior quality and taste of Chick-fil-a. I did not try any, but I imagine the same would hold true for the strips and wrap.
Lastly, there were lots of southern style sides like fried okra, fried mushrooms and mac 'n cheese. We tried the ma c'n cheese which was O.K. if you like the type that you can serve with an ice cream scoop and it retains that shape in your plate. For those of us that prefer the oozing gooey type that looks like the macaroni got caught in a lava flow of viscous cheese,...
