I don't understand my SA... Bobby J's (in Helotes) used to be one of the busiest hamburger joints in San Antonio. Highly praised by the media, and I believe it was voted #1 in SA at a given time. I was hurt when I heard it permanently closed down some years ago. Time passes by, and people forget. Recently, I drove by the old Bobby J's location, and I saw a new contemporary design building with a sign reading "Twin Bros. Burgerz". I got home and locked it up, and WOW! It looked awesome inside, the menu seemed pretty good, and the food pics appetizing. I showed them to the wife and she said, "we must go." So it was a date for Friday. When we arrived, first thing I noticed was plenty of parking spaces. We walked in, and there was no line. The two cashiers were very helpful and cordial. They took the time to explain the different menu items. Once we ordered, we looked for a table and if you ever went to Bobby J's, you know this place is big. But now, it's even bigger. They really did an awesome job rearranging and decorating this place. But we were yet to get our food. And then....BANG! Food came out pretty quick, and it was AWESOME! The burger meat was fresh, well cooked, seasoned, and tasty. The fries were thin, crispy, and very nicely seasoned. I had the Mexican Burger, which is served with a nice layer of refried beans, Jalapeños, fresh slices of avocado, and a juicy 1/3 tasty ground beef patty. My wife, who is the most picky eater in the world, had the "kids size" burger, and she loved it. This is what I don't get. I know my San Antonio brothers and sisters love their hamburgers. San Antonio is a hamburger connoisseur city, and we have some of the best burger joints in the States. But, when we visited Twin Bros Burgerz, the place was not packed!!! And this was a Friday evening after 7 PM. Was there something we missed? Plenty of parking, new architecture was ample eating areas, large screen TVs, even arcade machines (Classic Galaga Arcade)... And to top it off, awesome food; gourmet hamburgers, savory fries, crispy onion rings, great strawberry lemonade, chocolate fudge cookies a la mode. People, seriously, you gotta go. Twin Bros Burgerz will become your default burger joint. It won't be Bobby J's. That place closed, and it's gone, but Twin Bros Burgerz is on its way to San...
Read moreWe had high hopes for this new restaurant, but unfortunately, our experience left a lot to be desired.
Parking was the first issue—spaces are incredibly narrow and difficult to navigate. Once inside, the atmosphere was a bright spot. The interior has a clean, sporty theme that’s fun and inviting. While we didn’t check out the outdoor dining area, the indoor design was nicely done and thoughtfully themed.
Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. The restaurant operates on an order-at-the-counter, take-a-number system. We paid separately and spent over $100 between our family, only to receive food that was cold, bland, and served in very small portions. For the price, we expected significantly better quality and value.
Despite the cost, guests are expected to bus their own tables, which felt frustrating given the overall lack of service. Our table didn’t even have a paper towel roll—just an empty holder—while other tables at least had the roll. We were simply unlucky and left without any napkins or cleanup options at all.
While this was happening, an employee trying to refill the ketchup spilled it everywhere and left a large box in the middle of the floor while searching for assistance. I ended up moving it myself after an elderly woman nearly tripped over it. When I casually mentioned to a family member that the ketchup was out, the manager unexpectedly yelled at me in Spanish, saying there was another condiment station on the other side of the restaurant. He then began scolding the employee about the mess, which made the situation even more uncomfortable.
Lastly, while the restaurant uses a number system for food delivery, it was poorly implemented. Food runners looked confused, walking from table to table asking if certain dishes belonged there. The table numbers were printed on only one side of a small plastic World Cup trophy, making them difficult for staff to see.
Overall, while the interior atmosphere showed promise, the rest of the experience—cold food, disorganized service, poor communication, and lack of basic upkeep—left us disappointed. This was not the first impression we were hoping for, and we won’t...
Read moreSaw Twin Brothers was open and decided to give it a try, not knowing it was only day 3 of them being open which we would not have done in normal circumstances. It was packed by the time we left and for day 3 I thought they did a good job. The burger, in our opinion, was great. If you want a HUGE burger, this place is not for you. But if you want a "quality" burger it is. It was not greasy as I've seen in other reviews, at all! We also had the chicken wings and OUTSTANDING! Again, the quality of this chicken (organic, farm raised with zero antibotics) were more like a "chicken popsicle" and is like no other place we've eaten at. Only 4 but you actually enjoy tasting them, not consuming them. They came with charred peppers (can't remember the name) which was a nice treat. The fries/onion rings are being worked on to find the right consistency. The concept is INCREDIBLE! The attention to detail everywhere makes this place very special. You can tell a lot of heart, soul and money has gone into this establishment. I think it's unfair, cruel and downright wrong to leave reviews in such a hateful manner for a place that just opened. I do not know the owners, nor knew anything about their story until we walked through the doors and read about them. This is not Bobby J's and I don't think that is a bad thing...we have plenty of these types of places in San Antonio. I fully believe their concept, outdoor patio space, live music area, cute kids game room and indoor space is setting them up for great success in Helotes, which we need. We have nothing like this so I hope everyone gives them grace as like any business who just opens...is working out kinks. Don't go right now if you are critical. Or go and give the feedback directly to the owner. That is productive...not leaving hateful reviews on social media for a new business trying to contribute their passion to...
