Very very disappointed with today's visit. We entered and there was a long line , no big problem cause it's Sunday. The team in the front has no direction and is super slow at getting orders out. They would take one order and then just chill out and then take another one at a time instead of using all the registers to move the line along. The team kept on looking whenever the door would open and just make a face and now the line is circling around the place. Next they run out of barbacoat is ready to serve but they don't notify the waiting customers. I only knew cause i was at the front of the line and could hear them whispering amongst themselves. They eventually got more after 15 minutes of waiting. Everyone in the line started complaining amongst themselves and they were just confused shat was happening. The couple in front of me started arguing because they were just not in the know and they had been waiting longer than me. A quick announcement from the team would have helped the situation. Very bad experience, not sure if this is Rios with the other brand in town. The barbacoa itself was very very greasy which made the experience very bad. I could chalk this up to just an off day but there is zero communication and just bad service . Other Rios locations are in and out within 3 minutes tops. If want some great tasting barbacoa you have to visit Rios Barbacoa in Helotes. It is so delicious and meaty with just the perfect amount of fat to make it juicy. My husband and I have traveled and craved our weekend ritual. We came back to SA, it has changed so much. We were afraid we had lost our good tasting barbacoa until we came here to Rios. You do have to come early if you want to accompany that delicious barbacoa taco with some guacamole. Those guacamole cups fly out quickly. Did I mention the guacamole was amazing? Lol. They have tamales that are so good. They have menudo that is also tasty. Their corn tortillas are the best I’ve had in a long time. If you’re lucky to have leftovers those tortillas are going to warm up beautifully and not get hard the next day. The staff is quick and friendly. WE recently moved to Helotes. I used to trek from stone oak area to the south-side of SA to frequent my favorite barbacoa place. Today I was like man I don’t want to drive all the way over. I guess I will give this place a “shot”. I walked in and it was pretty steady folks coming in / out. I ordered the number 1, added an avocado and pico de gallo (for the wife). I was back home off Scenic Loop in roughly 5 minutes. The food was still warm, but I fired up the griddle warmed up the torts and barbacoa a bit . . . I was VERY presently surprised.
