An open letter to the chefs of Don Patron:
I grew up in this city, as did my family. This city does not have the most diverse people and it does not accept new and vibrant things without a certain trepidation. My wife and I quickly moved away for that very reason.
So we applaud your decision to bring much needed culture to a city replete with sandwich shops, chains, and pubs. Your restaurant aspires to much, and it delivers savory and succulent food. The drinks are cold, hard, and delicious. The taquitos had lots of meat, and the adobo sauce on the enchiladas was an interesting touch.
But we simply couldn't taste the meat seasoning in either dish. It seemed like the meat was prepared without the spices that make it Mexican. We encourage you not to lose that passion to inspire, now that the hardest transition has been made.
One hand we are fascinated by your grit: to choose to bring important culture to such a simple place. On the other we can understand the actions that leave us wanting more. We are not your average customers. I'm sure many Greensburgers prefer a sort of protection from the power of authentic fare.
But resist, fair restauranteur, resist! You deserve more. You deserve the respect of reality. I think, in the end, Greensburg will thank you for showing it true flavor. And we will also thank you for delivering something that is closer to...
Read moreI had high hopes prior to arriving due to the positive Yelp/Google reviews & recommendations I received while waiting for my bike from the guys at the Harley store.
Positive: -The salsa was the best part of the meal. Not too sweet, seasoned perfectly and it was a generous portion. -Service was quick, about 10 minutes for the meal to arrive. -The server was friendly and attentive.
Cons: The food was terrible. I ordered a tamale & the Combo #7(chicken enchilada & chile relleno served with rice and beans.) The food was absolutely disgusting. The Chile relleno was a soggy mess coated with a thick batter that reminded me of pancake mix and clearly not a light egg coating. There was some type of bland thick red sauce, that reminded me tomato paste with black pepper. The chicken inside the enchilada was seasoned well but was not tender and very dry. The tamale was clearly frozen and reheated because it had a dry crumbly texture. It was served with the same bland tomato paste as the other items I ordered.
The menu stated you can add cheese dip for $1 extra, however I was charged the full price for an appetizer of the queso. I didn’t dispute it because I was annoyed and completely dissatisfied with wasting...
Read moreThis was our first time here. My first impression was when I went to the bathroom and saw how dirty the light switch cover was. I immediately hoped that the kitchen was kept cleaner. Our meals took almost 30 mins to get to the table. The food was very good and in large portions. I got the chicken fajitas and my boyfriend got the chimichangas he said his food was very good also. The place was almost full at that time so the wait was somewhat understandable. They do give you chips and salsa which made the long wait more acceptable. My over all opinion is that this place needs to be cleaned. Our booth had splatters on the fabric of the seats and there was ample splatters and food marks on the wall. There are some cosmetic items that need attention like the chunk of the stone bar that is missing, the light fixture ceiling plate had fallen down the chain and the paint job on the front windows is a mess and mostly worn off. (Fast Times Sign and Screen printing could do a nice vinyl wrap on the windows that would be much more durable.) The food is very good and the atmosphere was nice had it been cleaner I would have given it more stars. I hope the next time I come there that light...
