SNAPSHOT = details below - a sandwich shop and an attached taproom make for a unique combo. Updates below. Now delivering great sandwiches and salads.
SUB SHOP
Very tasty sandwiches are made using Boar's head meats. Salads are consistently very good and sizeable portions mean you get quality bang for your buck. Workers are all very nice and lots of fun. Great place for kids.
NOTE = SPICE ALERT - I really enjoy spicy food and hot peppers. Hot pepper relish as add-in for subs or salads can be very hot one time and reasonably hot another time. Tasty nonetheless.
TAP ROOM
Sarah does a fantastic job running Monte's Tap Room. Innovative ideas such as tap takeover (multiple taps from one brewer) on Thursdays.. Sarah regularly has great variety of high quality.
Tacos on Tuesday are very good. At select times, buying a pint means you get to keep the pint glass.
FUN = Fridays Sarah has a $2 Russian brew-lette - Sarah grabs a can of beer from a bucket and what you get is what you get. Tuesdays is partiall IPA tap-takeover. Sarah says she will make "4 or 5" of the 12 taps IPAs. They might be national, regional or local.
TIP = Get a growler to go!! With taps changing fairly often, you may well encounter a pint you really like. Some of the kegs Sarah gets are from far away. This way, the fun can last beyond a pint or two.
UPDATE = live music!
BONUS TIPS =
Sarah has a great palette. You can ask her for a taste before you order a pint. You can also ask her to help you pick something. I often ask her a question or two about a given pint and then order one without tasting it first.
You can order a pint or a half-pint
Sarah picks the music. She likes vintage music and the Four Tops. She also like other...
Read moreI had been wanting to try Monte's Sub Shop forever. My husband and I and our small children visited today. We ordered kid's meals for the kids (grilled cheese panini and a juice box) which are $3.99 each. Upon receiving them I thought we were missing one as they were each about 2.5 inches of a wedge of bread and piece of cheese. When we asked, we were told by the man behind the counter in a sing song voice "sorry, that's the way they are" as he looked away and continued wiping off the counter. Our larger subs were tasty and I do believe it was our fault for not questioning the kid's meal before ordering. They should be ashamed of themselves charging the same price for two little chunks of bread and cheese as you'd pay for a large 12 inch sub. There's a problem when it isn't enough food for a 22 month old! Had he made it right, it would've been a lesson learned and we would've ordered differently in the future. Now, we will be taking our business elsewhere due to his lack of customer service.
*Response to Dan:
You are absolutely correct, the staff member who gave us two cookies was extremely sweet and we thanked her. The two tiny kids sandwiches (with the juice boxes, which I DID mention in my review) were the same price together as our large sandwich. Additionally, my husband never came up and apologized for my behavior. He feels the exact way I do. It was actually him who said you should be ashamed of yourselves for what you served as a kids meal. We questioned the size when handed them and quietly ate our meal and left. We never made a scene as you seem to be implying. We were just leaving an honest review of our experience at your restaurant. Have a...
Read moreHello. We have been going to Montes since they opened years ago but the last few times we have visited it has been disappointing, period. This last trip was the worst. I understand new employees and how things can get mixed up , it just happens. When you ask for a panini and you watch them make it and ask several times “ I asked “ for a panini and they reply that is what this is. But wrong bread and don’t put it in the toaster That ain’t a panini. And the incorrect sandwich being made next to it when asked again about the sub being made. Not happy. The woman at the register recognized me and tried to make it all right but more bread then meat, you can tell new employees, although it this is a common occurrence these days. ? That’s not good. Thank you for your time. Gregg. Hello I see your reply and let’s see if I can clarify. I asked for a panini and it was made on a sub tool / not put in a press nor toasted. I asked for an Italian/ which I always do and a full monte was made along with an Italian. When it was realized I didn’t ask for the third sandwich there was confusion as to how to make the Italian. Does that make any more...
